Hey lifejourney, which part is not true. fill me in

There is no BLOOD BATH GOING ON IN WEST KINGSTON JAMAICA. They are taking everything in strive. KIDS are going to school, workers are going to work. Why create a PANIC when there is none.

There is not bloodshed occuring - I get Lifejourney's point, the heading of your topic seems like there is major chaos going on - Yes, there is the potential, but everyone is praying that it will not amount to that. People are starting widespread panic by making false statements or spreading rumors - Classic example - businesses in Kingston were boarding up windows yesterday as a precaution - Some fool was running down the street screaming that a hurricane was coming. (he obviously missed the correct news).

MLBarb, I wouldn't worry about this affecting the visa - However, if your interview is soon, I would be sure to stay in the safer areas, be aware of your surroundings, and alert to potential issues - steer clear of protests if you encounter them.

Maybe we in the US knows more than those in west Kingston, but as of this morning, my relatives says all kids are going to school, and the crime is no more than it was on Saturday.

I just heard that people are setting up to go into West Kingston and take lives if Prime Minister sign Coke over to the US, I'm waiting for my husband to call me back but it's taking so long and now I'm getting worried.

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Police say businesses in Jamaica’s capital have been closing early as rumors spread that the government has signed extradition papers for a man described by the U.S. as a major drug kingpin.

Police commissioner Owen Ellington says officers are monitoring the situation and there is no threat to public safety.

West Kingston community leader Christopher “Dudus” Coke is wanted by the U.S. on weapons and drug trafficking charges. Observers say any attempt to arrest the politically connected Coke inside his barricaded neighborhood could spark violence.

Local media say the government has denied signing extradition papers.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding has touched off a public outcry by opposing Coke’s extradition.

PPl need to stop spreading rumors and creating panic. My husband and I listen/watch the news online religiously every night and morning and we have heard no such thing. It's Mr. Finson (Dudus lawyer)is the one who made the comment that the forces should not use the extradition a an excuse to invade and kill innocent ppl in Tivoli.

I spoke to my sister last night and she says its not pretty. She says news break has been on tv since 7 pm. A lot of places are being caught on fire and police are being attacked. Today is Labor Day in Jamaica and business' are closed. Thugs have burned down Hannah Town Police station and I think Denham Town as well. Everything is spreading out of the Tivoli Community into neighboring communities. JPS cut off the power to downtown Kingston hoping Dudus will give himself up, but thugs have the city on lock down. At first I was going to try to push my Fiance through quickly to get an interview, but I think I may hold off a bit until Kingston cool down. My sister says it could be a month before things get better. I would advise if anyone has upcoming interviews to kind of hold off a bit. I know we love them and want them here, but Kingston is not a good area to travel to right now. I don't even think air traffic is flying into there because my sis says from windward road up to marcus garvey drive to spanish town road is locked off. Police are throughly searching people on the street. Also, people in the community that wants to come out can't come out due to thugs detering government help from coming into the communities. It does not look good there at all.

JA Princess, the Embassy will decide whether they will be open. If the Embassy is business as usual, I suggest he comes into Kingston via ST Mary rather than through Ochi/Mt Rosser. If he comes that way, he will not have to go anywhere near Tivoli.

Don't worry about the 5 miles, can't see anything spreading to New Kingston.

Why don't you'll trust your husbands and SO instinct on these situations. They have a better guage of what's happen there in JA, rather than us on the other side of the ocean. I am just saying everything that is reported in the news is not always correct. Talk to your husbands and get their take on what they are willing to do. I understand the concern, but there is multiple ways to get to the embassy, as JaEnglish has pointed out.

Thanks JAEnglish, I read him this post this morning. He lives in the country on the other side of JA and before we started this whole process he had never even BEEN to Kingston. He says if the embassy is open he is going... If the buses are not running he will get his brother to drive him.

He is watching the same TVJ news that I am. There are people on this board who are in Kingston, so nuh mind mi if I would like their input.
