"Our immigration and citizenship laws define who "we" are as Americans. A century and half ago, this nation fought a bloody civil war. That conflict established not only that all persons truly are created equal, but also that citizenship means national citizenship, and that no single region or state may decide who belongs as an American."

Exactly this is so misinterpreted by this professor because of statements being taken out of context. The civil war was between country country men of that era not illegal immigrants.

All men are created equally I and no one else should argue this; but this is not an argument of which citizen has more rights or the bestowing of liberty, Justice to the people we brought here and enslaved.

In the time when people could immigrate freely if they had the money to get here they earned their citizenship. We did not have these immigration laws to protect the legal citizens of the USA which were enacted because we could not sustain the continued untempered flow of immigrants to the promised land of the USA.

Nothing wrong with the AZ Law if you really break down or research what this professor tries to distort.

I refer you to this link which provides the historical immigration laws.

http://www.rapidimmigration.com/usa/1_eng_immigration_history.html

This tells you why we now limit the number of legal immigrants to the USA each year.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_to_the_United_States

no take those issues stated and multiply by 12 and you have disaster. (why 12 because there is approx. 12mill illegals in the USA)

"This standard gives institutional cover for selective immigration enforcement through racial and ethnic profiling, and for this reason it will lead to constitutional violations if the statute goes into effect. Moreover, though the statute targets noncitizens who are in the U.S. unlawfully, it has an impact on U.S. citizens and lawful immigrants who will be caught in the same enforcement net, denying them the rights of other Arizonans to live their lives free from unwarranted suspicion"

Was this review written before or after the law change on 5/1.

These people continually speak out even thought the law no longer racially profiles people. They must be stopped legally and then can be asked during a routine stop for those papers...if the driver provides a legal drivers license then no problem but if none is available more avenues are pursued as with you and I if we do not have our own IDs. If an overloaded van of people legal or not then they all should be asked for IDs they were all breaking the law.

"Born of fear and anger, Arizona's attempt to enact its own immigration regime and to allow selective enforcement is impulsive extremism. " no longer only AZ now 10 states consider a law similar and more will follow.

"This is yet another sign of the urgent need for Congress and the president to address tough questions of immigration policy and to adopt the durable solutions that can only come from federal legislation."

I agree but amnesty is not the answer and I am sorry if it upset you or others but the possibility of uprooting families with children to be deported should be considered.

There is movement in this area including the change in the 14th Amendment:

The professor is right in part. The durable solution is indeed federal legislation. But the only change needed is for the Federal authorities to ENFORCE THE LEGISLATION CURRENTLY IN PLACE.

Which, oddly enough, is what AZ is trying to do, because the Federal authorities can't be bothered to make more than token attempts at doing so.

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself
