Erm Okay then Simpson. The planet is not going to disappear into a black hole because of an oil leak.

Who knew!?

Your homies on the far left. You might want to get the word out because you seem to be the exception to the rule.

Soooo.... the guy making the statement is stupid for making it but the statement itself isn't stupid...

What are you smoking?

Pike because he is the CEO of the company that caused this mess, his focus and comments should all be on how to fix this mess. Do you really need to have this explained to you? Its not rocket science.

You know... I have never seen someone go as far to defend rank stupidity as you do. Seriously - it's really has to be seen to be believed.

Perhaps the State and Federal Government should have said that the Hurricane Katrina devastation was no big deal too. Chernobyl? Pshaw! Who cares!?

Because naturally having an arrogant tw@t CEO tell you that a major environmental disaster in a sensitive geographic region is no big problem is totally the height of intelligence and sensitivity, isn't it.

If the dude said that to the Florida fishermen whose livelihoods are being disrupted, the guy wouldn't get out of there alive!

Like I said talk to your homies on the far left.

How about I talk to you - since you are the one spouting complete shite?

I don't know if the earth is doomed, but I think that Florida might surely be. Our ecosystems were fragile enough as it is and now with this, we could be totally farked. Just sayin'.

I had a little one on one with mother nature and she gave me her word that Florida will be ok. I think her exact words were "I've been fixing human ** ups for some time now and this oil spill will be a walk in the park ". I was also told to give it up on all this global warming nonsense, shes tired of it.

You've never listened to Al Franken?

Like I said before, it is a serious issue that needs to be taken care of. I'm just not going fall for all this outrageous doom and gloom that you seem to have fallen victim to.

Callers into radio and tv stations. Keep in mind I am referring to the left wing loonies not all lefties.

Ah, not so fast. You're initial comment was in defense of BP's CEO by stating that a little perspective was needed to which you later referred to as "gloom and doom" rhetoric from leftwing loonies who you just identified as callers to radio stations. So basically, BP's CEO is merely responding to unidentified callers into radio stations and not responding to the damage assessment reports that give details about the scope of this disaster? I see.

What have I "fallen victim" too? All I have said is that it is a stupid and crassly insensitive statement - no different to suggesting that a ####### in your drinking water is no big problem if there is enough volume of water to dissolve it in.

You in your infinite wisdom have seen fit to defend the statement. God only knows why...

And there we have it folks. A man who is quick to point out "loonies" while he himself ignores science.

Steve here is my initial comment -

I think he mentions this in hope that all you left wing loonies will take a chill pill and quit acting like the earth is toast.

A written apology will do. :D

Well since your defending the "earth is doomed" crowd, I would say you have fallen victim to the left wing loonies. Keep in mind this whole time I have only been referring to that crowd, beleive it or not but there is loonies on the left too. ;)

P.S. - Nice to know that you have finally recognized my infinite wisdom.

I'm haven't defended or made any reference to an "earth is doomed crowd", that is all you and you alone.

My only position in this thread is that the statement the guy made was stupid and crass. I haven't said anything else.

I think you mean scientists with theories.

Where is the proof that humans are causing global warming? I hope your not going to point to that hockey stick graph.

I'm not gonna bother to read the other 3 pages of posts to add my 2 cents. Fact is...the guy is partially right. Unfortunately this so called tiny part of oil released won't be floating around in the open ocean and will likely be hitting land mostly on the US coastline where it is painfully visible. The fact that it is visible and hits close to home gets people riled.

We have a growing island of plastic garbage the size of Texas floating in the middle of the Pacific ocean and it is an ecological disaster that is just as bad if not worst in that it is infinite and not being addressed. The oil spill will be stopped eventually. The world's population continues to add to the plastic island with no end in sight.

Out of sight...out of mind. How big does it have to get before it is stopped? Who cares?

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995
