Does anyone know the cost and process of replacing a Ukraine international passport? Are the wait periods different? Is it easy to replace?

Thank you :)

Much easier to get one now than a few years ago. They have a new system. The normal processing takes 30 days, but by paying increasingly higher fees you can get a passport (in most oblasti, maybe all now) in 3 days.

They recently had a problem with the special paper they use to print the passports being unavailable. This happens from time to time, but I hear that it is cleared up now and they are back on schedule. Last summer the 3 days service was 340 Hryvnia about $50 right now. They also offered the usual 30 day and another 14 day service.

I do not know the current price or if it has changed since last year, but I imagine it is well under $100 for the fast service.

My wife is currently sitting in Nova Kakhovka waiting for the new passport. It was stolen a week ago. She arrived on Friday and was told it would be ready on Saturday. I think she had to pay a fee of 240 grivna. She went Saturday and after waiting half the day was told to come back on Monday. She was called on Monday as asked to come. She went and waited again for most the day. The woman told her that she would need to pay the full fee again since the paper was so expensive. Well, we have much history with the passport officer and it is the same story. I personally have been involded in waiting and going for many days. If I did not experience this myself then I would think something was fishy :) My wife went to speak with a lawyer in the city and will have him speak to her tomorrow. It definetly takes some patience when you are use to having things done the American way. I have asked if she could get a document giving the fees but the response was no and I guess maybe she didn't ask for it. We still have a little language barrier. ok a lot of language barrier. :bonk: Its so frustrating to me because I am use to handling the situations so differently and never take no for a answer.

Ah yes. One must allow for the frustration of the Ukrainian system. It was worse 2 years ago. We did a paspport for our youngest son last summer, but Alla was there for two months so there was no hurry. She put in the application and went to Moscow for a month, came back and my MIL had picked it up. Easy.

I cannot begin to tell you how many times I waited in lines all day, seems to be the national pass time.
