I know this was so short sided of me but i just re-read the letter to get things together for my husband's interview tomorrow. It says 2 passport photographs are recommended but not required. Should I have him run to get them done tonight??

Also I got a letter yesterday from VA where we used to live saying we owed back taxes from last year. I had called them earlier this year and they said they couldn't read the w2's I had sent in originally (didn't mention that for a year) and that i should re-send - which I did. Now today I got a letter saying that they were due (we don't owe any tax - I paid in last year and should have gotten a refund this year). I'm not sure what will happen with this tomorrow - anyone in a similar situation? What would you do to prepare just in case? Also my husband really doesn't understand how all of this works yet - he gets the gist but not the details as i handle the finances....will I be able to explain this or will he have to?

The passport photographs are suggested just in case the two that you submitted with the application are not suitable for the Citizenship document. While I brought two extra, they used the ones I sent with the application. If the photos you submitted were clear and the right size I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you have any questions or doubts about the clarity of the image on the ones you submitted, then you could get additional ones made. Chances are he won't need them but if you have them now he can use them for the new US passport.

USCIS wants to ensure that the new citizen is responsible and has filed tax returns and paid any taxes owed or has worked out some sort of payment plan. Did you submit the transcripts with the application or did you submit copies of the whole returns? Does the issue involve State taxes? You only really are required to submit Federal tax returns. Anyway, bring along the documents that relate to the tax issue and if asked, your husband can say that there is an issue with the State taxes but it is being worked on right now. I strongly doubt there will be any problem. As long as you provided evidence that you have filed them there shouldn't be any problem. Your husband can also suggest the interviewer talk to you about any tax details since you are the one who is responsible for the tax returns in your household.

Good luck with the interview.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thanks so much for a timely response. i appreciate it! The issue did involve state taxes. We filed everything on time and paid on time. A year later they said there was a problem, and is now attempting to be worked out. For now I can breathe a little bit easier and hope it's not an issue tomorrow ;)
