Do you have a photocopy of the visa he was issued? You will need it for the "visa number".

If you can get an affidavit stating that you lost your old passport and you obtained a new passport as a replacement, I am sure it wont be a problem.

hello everyone my husband lost his old passport but he still has his I-94

anyways i was wondering how to write a explanation letter

to send in with the I-485 stating that he lost it many years ago

how to even begin has anyone ever had that problem ??

I will also recommend to make a police report and include it with the submission..

A police report because he lost his passport??? i dont see how losing his passport has anything to do with the police

Two things that I can think of are:

- to protect him in case of identity theft

- to officially document the lost passport. Though if it was lost many years ago the police may not even take the report.

To all of those who posted to file a police report, how can they file a Police report on something that was stated by the OP that happen years ago? See the quote above.

Instead of police report, I'd suggest go file for a new passport from his consulate, and attach the paperwork (i.e. receipt) with the application package. I'm fairly sure eventually he will need a passport to go through the whole process, but it doesn't hurt to send in the package first while waiting for the new passport.

Current status: H1b and employer-sponsored AOS
