I'm filling out the I 134 and I just got to thinking, is it okay for me to be the sole sponsor for my fiance if my job is temporary? It doesn't finish until the end of June 2011 and the salary is more than enough to meet the poverty guidelines. It also allows for plenty of time to A) find a new job and B) for my fiance to get the paperwork cleared so he can work. The way I see it someone can get laid off or fired from a permanent job at any time anyway, so having a job that expires in a year shouldn't make much difference. Anyone else hear differently or had problems with this before?

It is very likely that this will be OK, the only way to be absolutely certain, is to have someone with very similar circumstances have passed through the London Embassy for a K-1, I think that is what you filed.

If you have a contract stating June 2011 and have been receiving pay stubs or checks (make copies of checks if no pay stubs), you should try to provide as much documentation as possible.

If you have a letter stating the job is a contract until June 2011, you should be fine as you will need to have the Alien Fiance(e) arrive in the USA, you will need to marry and adjust status within 90 days. When you file to Adjust Status, you will need to file a new Affidavit of Support, the I-864, which is much more specific in its instructions and requirements. So you should be thinking ahead to the time frame of marriage and filing the I-864.

Thanks for the reply! We plan to marry in early september, so I think we'll still be okay for AOS. By then it may have been extended to perm. anyway. In fact, I feel fairly sure it will be.
