usps or courier?

ok, just about ready to send everything off ... two quick questions:

1. I read somewhere that USPS was not reliable. Any thouughts on this? I know to pay extra to have them sign for receiving the petition, but just making sure we should not be using a courier service instead.

2. for the fee involved for the i-129F .. I take it you should use a personal cheque so that you can track it through the bank? Or .. should we get a money order?

I don't know why, but just sending this off makes me nervous!

Never had a problem with USPS just do the one that is 14 dollars and you can track it on line.. can't remember the name... express or something

I would send a check. When the check is cashed you can either look online on the back for your number or call your bank and get the number so yu can rack your progress on line

Express Mail starts at $14.40 for next day to the receiving P.O. Box

Priority Mail starts at $4.05 for 3-day max to the P.O. Box

Documents should at least have certified mailing for $2.40 more on the priority

delivery confirmation cost $0.50

return receipt $1.85

I've used certified Priority with return receipts for legal docs. Just sent out for a Chinese travel visa and had to enclose my passport. Everything will be back in about 2 weeks.

Stateside mail is one of the better ones on the planet ( I have 2 uncles that were postmasters).

I always used FedEx for immigration documents. It is an expensive option but I like the: immediacy, receipts, tracking option, and being able to follow up with a telephone call if necessary. A little extra $ for a little extra piece of mind.

Moz, I sent mine USPS overnight, certified, return receipt...but if I had it to do over I would forego the option for return receipt because since they actually have to sign for it, it was the NEXT day before it was actually delivered, the signature cost me a day...you can still track it if its priority mail and they'll tell you when it was delivered, the signature was useless...

Just my two cents. Send it 2-3 day usps priority mail for $4.05. Why waste your money? Most likely will arrive in 2 days but maybe 3. Getting that extra day or two really is NOT going to speed up the process. Save yourself the cash as this process is already expensive enough.

Exactly how you send it is really immaterial. However always send it signature required. In spite of what everyone tells you. that is the only way that you can track it and only way you can prove it was delivered where you want it delivered.

Maybe, Maybe not...another member mailed hers the same day as me but hers was delivered the day before (my signature requirement) she got her NOA1 3 days later, I got mine 17! days later, seems to me they are sending them on to CSC in groups...luck of the draw I say...

I personally will be sending it overnight because I don't want all of this stuff sitting around for 2 - 3 days... both of our social security numbers along with other sensitive info. It'd be more peace of mind for me to know that it was out of the mail as fast as it could be.

I did hear something weird about VSC that maybe someone could clear up for me... I heard that if you mail it FedEx it goes straight to the service center, but other ways and it goes to a nearby town.

Thanks so much for all your input. I will definately be using USPS and asking for a signature - however, whether we go overnight or 2-3 days will depend on my level of cheapitude (yes - it truly is a real word! ok, not really) once we get to the post office.

I was a little concerned before because David's cheques don't get returned to him, however, we can see copies of cashed cheques online so will be easily able to look for the case number.

I used Express Mail for everything I sent and nothing was ever lost.

The signature return receipt is a good idea in concept, but Vermont just rubber stamps the director's name on the receipt.

United States Post Service (USPS) is the most reliable because they go straight to the Vermont Service Center (VCS) while others don't. Also, the date you mailed your petition, documents, etc is considered the date the documents were constructively delivered at the centers pursuant to Federal law.

I used the USPS to return my RFE and it was signed at the VCS supposedly by Paul Novak. I know it got there because my petition was approved on July 28th, 2006. This is one of the few times it pays to rely on Uncle Sam's mailing system.

If you send it priority mail you can track it regardless of you requesting return receipt (signature) or not

if it arrives at the PO AFTER they pick up the mail it will be delivered the next day if you require a signature,

but if you do not require a signature it goes straight into their box that day.

I never had a problem with USPS either! just do the one that is 14 dollars and you can track it online.. and they'll get it the next day.. they tell u who signed for it too..
