Joint Taxes?

Timeline

my wife interview is next week n islamabad its been four years because i was green card holder these four years i did my taxes but never did joint taxes she doesnt work but i had to get alot of papers from pakistan in order to do joint so my accountant said you can amend last three years taxes when she gets here so i did that now i m scared what if they say why didnt i do joint?

They don't care why you didn't file joint, just like they don't care if you're eligible to claim charitable deductions but choose not to. The only thing they care about is whether you are eligible to claim what you claim. If you were eligible to file a joint return, then you can amend your return and change your filing status.

Note that your wife will be treated as a resident alien for tax purposes, which means any money she made will living abroad would be taxable.

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

not to worry...she didnt have an ITIN or SSN right? You arent required to file jointly (although in your case it might have helped out). I didnt file joint with my wife either...although I dont think they asked for 2009 taxes either.

16 March 2012 Sent I-751 package from Aviano AB, Italy.

29 March 2012 Received everything back...wrong fee. thought we didn't have to pay biometrics since we were sending fingerprint cards and passport photos.

30 March 2012 Sent everything out again from Aviano AB, Italy.

10 April 2012 Check cashed

17 April 2012 Received NOA1 dated 6 April.

06 Dec 2012 Received 10 yr green card. Letter said it was approved 28 November 2012.
