on a side note, i remember the pound being as low as 1.05 to the dollar in the early 80s. it might have wnet lower than that (can't remember). i know it was 1.05, however.

Australia has been a bastion of fiscal responsibility. In fact in a recent study of fiscal responsibility, Australia was found to be the most fiscally responsible country south of the Mason-Dixon line.
