Apply for your Social Security card about 10 days after you arrive in the U.S. It takes about that long for you to appear in the system. Apply in your maiden name. You can change your Social Security card to your married name after you get married. It is easy and it is free. You do not have to be married in order to apply for a Social Security card. Avoid applying for your Social Security card at the end of your 90-day window, as it will cause problems.

Adjust your status as soon as possible after you get married. Definitely adjust your status before your 90-day window expires. Go to the county clerk's office as soon as possible after your marriage and pick up a copy of your official marriage certificate. You will need it in order to adjust your status. You should receive your green card about three months or so after you send in your paperwork to adjust your status.

Good luck! :star:
