So i sent the first I-129 form in on January 22nd or so and we were approved on May 12. Pretty quickly that is for sure. So now we are deciding when to have her fly over.

Just wondering if anyone could give some advie. Is it ok for her to travel alone to LA and go through customs without me? Or should i fly and meet her and come back together in case she has any problems? Thanks for any help.

It depends on her English more than anything I think. I went to Thailand and brought my wife back because her English isn't very good. We went back for Songkran this year, and due to ticket prices increasing, we were on different flights. She did ok. One thing I did do, was bring all the checked luggage with me because her POE was not the final destination. It's kind of confusing because you have to get your luggage, go through customs and then re-check your luggage. If there's a way you could avoid that, it would be easier for her, unless your POE is also the final destination.

Good work on getting the visa under the wire. She should be OK by herself as long as her papers are in order and she follows the good advice here on VJ.

Also, have her check the I-94 form that the Immigration Official goes over BEFORE she leaves his/her presence.

My wife came through Anchorage and they misspelled her name on it.

Another official checked it after the one that made the mistake and she just assumed they were doing their job.

Don't take anything for granted.

We had to go to JFK to the "Deferred Inspections Unit" to have them amend the I-94,

but it was no charge because it was THEIR mistake.

Many people coming to the US have an elevated reverence for government officials

because they DO wield great power over those who come across our borders.

However, they are human too and do make mistakes.

Her English is pretty good, she is just a little bit nervous about it but i am thinking she will be fine. Does anyone know that if she is having problems at the LA airport any chance they would call me and let me help? Or is she on her own at that point until she gets through and picks up her bags and leaves?

She wont have any huge problem especially if her English is pretty good. I have been thru there about 8 times & have seen people that didnt speak English at all get thru it ok. She could call you after she gets past immigration but I doubt she will need to.

Its after customs that she will need assistance. I sent you a P M to explain what you can do to help her. It wont be as bad as she may think but it is intimidating to all first timers.

If she is on Southwest for example she could just walk out the front door, turn left & take a 10 minute walk over to terminal # 1. If that doesnt make sense she could take the shuttle bus to connect to any domestic air line. There is a sign in the center island area to show people where to board the bus.

About 10 minutes before I met my wife at JFK last December,

2 government agents brought a middle aged lady through

the gate in handcuffs.

I guess she forgot to fold the blanket on her seat neatly

before she left the aircraft...huh.gif

My DIL was apprehensive about flying into LAX and going through customs, but said in retrospect that it was easy and they were very pleasant towards her. We were probably more concerned than she was. My son went to LAX to meet her but got there after she had arrived. If she has a connecting flight I'd be much more concerned about that. We've had major snafus at LAX making connections, but lived to tell about them (and got our flight upgraded to Thailand once, which wasn't so bad).
