PA Legislators Introduce Arizona-Style

Subsequent administrations have stymied any attempts to coordinate even Social Security mismatches with immigration law enforcement authorities. What makes you think they will coordinate any effort at the local level? They first need to get their own Federal level act in order. These present clowns in power wouldn't even mandate that Federal stimulus jobs ensure that E-Verify was used to ensure illegal aliens weren't hired for public projects. They deceptively state that Federal contractors must use E-Verify, but leave out the fact that this is a miniscule amount and excludes the much bigger amount of stimulus jobs mandated by congress. This provision was purposely excluded to throw a bone to the illegal alien lobby. How absurd is it for illegal aliens to be barred from illegally working in the USA, but the Federal government refuses to ensure they don't get Federal stimulus jobs? That is the insanity that is going on under the noses of most Americans. They don't have a clue and the lamestream media refuses to report what is going on.

If they won't even check to see that illegal aliens don't get stimulus jobs with monies given to states, what makes you think they will check the immigration status of the parents of illegal aliens enrolling their children in local schools? Not that I think they should. It wouldn't even be necessary if the administration enforced existing and longstanding workplace laws against illegal aliens.

Spot on, your hammer hit square on the head of the nail!

Uhm - any wording in that proposed HB in Pennsylvania.

That's my answer - and I'm sticking to it !!!!

My hope is that the wording will be added. Period. I hope I am clear on that one point, yes?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I'm not arguing with you. What seems to be common sense to you and I won't see the light of day with the mindset of the judiciary or the legislature on the Federal level today. Nevermind that barring illegal aliens and their illegal children from participating in anything was not a problem in my parents' times or even when I was a kid. I think it has a lot more to do with present misguided mentality than in any real constitutionality. Just my opinion. What was once illegal is now openly tolerated and encouraged. What a shame.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

Yup - the thing I see, with the PA HB, is that it's actively denying 'issuance' of state, county/burrough , city public benefits to illegal aliens. The sticky bit, IMO, is in the public school systems in PA - whether its to be 'covered' via new wording in the HB, or no.

More power to them

If anything, this is the way to make Congress and the White House understand that we do not want and do not need immigration reform. We need enforcement. The more states that enact legislation to allow local enforcement of Federal laws that the Federal authorities are neglecting, or even abrogating, the more the electorate will become engaged in the ongoing debate, the more their voice will be heard, the more pressure it will bring to bear on Congress and the harder it will be for the politicians on both sides to ignore.

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

I no longer feel alone in my appalled state at the enforcement of the immigration laws.

Lets see 2 weeks ago Arizona..now PA what next will it be 4 states that enact a policy???? then 8???? then 16????

Whenh will Washington wake up see that the majority of the voters of all ethnicity are vore enforcement; even if some are intimidated by their own ethinic groups to not say anything.

Did any one see this clip from Hannity..btw I am not considered a conservative but what I would call a Nationalist.

The clip is... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGqPo5ofk0s

Just what we need idiots like this teacher provoking violence and in such a manner which would or could cause harm to many people if they were to follow his lead.

PA Legislators Introduce Arizona-Style Enforcement Bill

On Tuesday, May 4, Pennsylvania State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, along with 26 original cosponsors, introduced <A href="http://www.legis.state.pa.us/CFDOCS/Legis/PN/Public/btCheck.cfm?txtType=HTM&sessYr=2009&sessInd=0&billBody=H&billTyp=B&billNbr=2479&pn=3715">House Bill (HB) 2479, the "Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act." (Press Release, May 4, 2010). HB 2479 is an immigration enforcement bill similar to Arizona's SB 1070, which Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law last month. (See FAIR's Legislative Update, April 26, 2010).

Like SB 1070, the new Pennsylvania bill contains an anti-sanctuary policy provision that would require a law enforcement officer to make a "complete, full, and appropriate attempt" to verify an individual's immigration status if – during a lawful stop, detainment, or arrest only – the officer develops a reasonable suspicion that the individual is unlawfully present in the United States. (§5, ¶ 2). HB 2479 also mirrors federal alien registration laws by providing that illegal aliens who violate such laws (8 U.S.C. 1304(e) and 8 U.S.C. 1306(a), which require aliens to register and carry their documents with them at all times) have committed a third degree misdemeanor under Pennsylvania state law. (§6). Finally, like the Arizona bill, HB 2479 provides that its provisions must be enforced "without regard to race, religion, gender, ethnicity or national origin." (§2, ¶ 6).

HB 2479 includes other immigration enforcement oriented measures that were not included in the Arizona bill. These measures include:

  • A requirement that state agencies verify the immigration status of any individual over the age of 18 who applies for federal, state, or local public benefits in the state of Pennsylvania (§4);
  • The establishment of a third degree felony for individuals who intentionally engage in smuggling of illegal aliens (§7); and
  • Provisions similar to the Legal Arizona Workers Act – legislation that former Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano signed into law in 2007, requiring employers to check the employment eligibility status of each new employee through E-Verify (§§8-10).

At a press conference marking the introduction of HB 2479, Rep. Metcalfe highlighted the findings of FAIR's 2009 "Costs of Illegal Immigration to Pennsylvanians" cost study, which reports that Pennsylvania's illegal alien population costs the state's taxpayers about $728 million per year for education, medical care and incarceration. FAIR President Dan Stein attended the press conference and explained why states are taking action on immigration enforcement: "[Y]ear after year, the federal government has failed in its mission: to enforce these laws." (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, May 5, 2010).

There's a lot of good stuff in this one. I don't have much of an issue with it at all. Actually, I like a lot of it's provisions.
