Hi... I'm adjusting my status from H1B to LPR and wanted to know the course of action after I receive my green card. I'm currently working for my employer who holds my H1B visa. I should be receiving my EAD soon and have my interview on the 21st. I wanted to know when you tell your employer's HR department that they no longer need to sponsor your visa because you have an EAD/green card now.

Looking for input from people who have gone through the same situation. My manager and my team are aware than I have a traditional wedding ceremony in a few months, but I didn't broadcast the fact that we had a civil cermony here and I filed for AOS.

Thank you...

I did H1B to LPR in 2008. I did not tell my employer (or get them to update my I9) until I received my unrestricted SS card. I assume you will be getting conditional status (2 yr green card). If you show the conditional green card or EAD as your employment authorization document, you may get into issue during removing conditions when your greencard expires in 2 years.

I was not beneficiary of a concurrent I485 through employment. If this is your case, I think that you can have 2 485's out there and just cancel the one through your employer once your family based is approved. No point to cancel the employment based until your family based is approved. Depends on your relationship with your employer.

not necessary to inform your employer. When your H1b is due for a renewal you can tell them then, and use your EAD/GC for I-9. Not like they are paying money every month to keep you on H1b.

Thanks guys.... I did not start the employment based green card process, so I only have my I-485 due to marriage to USC. I was just wondering if they come to know when the visa gets invalidated (once I get my GC, I presume), and if its my responsibility to let them know.

I was in US on an H1B visa when I met my USC husband and we got married. I filed the I-130, I-485, I-765, I-864 and I-131, so I'm not sure what the confusion is about. I'm pretty sure I am eligible and needed to file the I-130 and I-485.

ahhh ok, gotcha... By only I meant that I only have a green card application due to my marriage to a USC, and never applied for GC through my employer.
