Vaccinations in Accra

Hello Everyone,

I am addressing this topic specifically to those who have experienced this in Ghana. If the spouse cannot find vaccination form is it advisable to have her Doctor administer the shots needed for immigration and thus have that for later on or does she have to go through the panel doctors (i.e. Akai House). The instructions seems to present a loophole in that all Akai House will do is verify that the shots has been taken when she presents the card to them. Any inputs?

My fiancee hasn't done the vaccinations just yet, but I think I can share some info. I was in Ghana recently when packet 3 and/or 4 or whatever was received. We went to Akai House and was told that they'd do the vaccinations.

I don't see any loopholes in the instructions: "We only accept medical exam results from the listed below. Some providers of the medicals may not be able to perform all the required tests. This may require you to go to multiple facilities..."

Shalom Med doesn't look like they do vaccinations, so this is probably what they mean by having to go to multiple facilities to complete. Still I would think that if some vaccinations had been done previously they could note that. Akai House informed us that if proof of certain vaccinations (when person was a child) were provided, they would note it and that particular vaccination would not have to be repeated.

Mr. K,

Thanks. So it appears that the vaccination will have to be from childhood. I was hoping we could bypass that by having her take those shots with her primary since they cannot find childhood vaccinations forms. However, it appears we might just have to wait after all and go to Akai House. Would you let me know once your fiance receives her vaccinations? I want to know if they combine some of these shots or one would have to keep going there repeatedly to get them. Those shots made me seriously ill as a child.

Again thanks for the response and I hope you will keep me apprised. Blessings and peace

agynyame,

Sure. It does appear the vaccinations would have to be from childhood, according to the conversation we had with the person at Akai. My fiancée also lost her form that showed vaccinations from childhood. It seems like there would be some medical authority in Ghana that could be contacted to confirm what vaccinations a person had taken during childhood, so even if the form was lost they could retrieve the info that way. That’s what I’ve been kind of researching this week because I don’t particularly care for all of these vaccinations either.

I had some info on a vaccination waiver, but from what I understand it’s not necessarily guaranteed that it would be granted and the delay (in the k1 process) would be significant. Still considering it though. With that said, my intention is to still try and confirm her childhood vaccinations, because at least it would cut down on what she’d have to take going forward.

While there, the person at Akai showed me the list of vaccinations, which is pretty extensive: Hepatitis B, Hemophilus influenza, DPT, Polio, Tetanol, Hepatitis A, Influenza vaccine, Typhoid vaccine, MMR, Pneumococcal vaccine, T.D., Chicken pox vaccine, Mencewax.

They informed us that the person would have to make multiple visits for the shots.

We are looking to have my fiancée start in June or July (about 3 mos before interview, since some of the stuff has to be done within 6 mos of the interview or travel date). If you don’t hear from me by July some time, drop me a message.

Lori are you able to verify that? I thought Holy Trinity is responsible for only examinations and chest x-rays? I was not aware that they did vaccinations as well. I will see if I can all today.

Lori,

Thank you very much. It appears that one can have most of the tests done in one facility now. I called Shalom, Holy Trinity and Akai House yesterday. I was able to talk to someone at Shalom (I think a receptionist). She referred me to a one Efua who was very helpful. She explained to me that now, one can do all the tests (physical, vaccination, chest x-ray) at Shalom (cost $269 or equivalent in Ghana cedis). They only send you to Medlabs to do serologicals. That is included in the $269. Afterwards, they put everything together and the doctor signs off on it. In my opinion, they earned my business.

Reason 1, someone picked up the phone and referred me someone I can talk to. Reason 2, Efua was very helpful. No one picked up at either Trinity or Akai House. If you asked me, I would say that is poor customer service.

Can you tell me how much your total cost was going through Holy Trinity?

As a note,

It's about time my fiancee go for her med appt. So I spoke with Akai House last week and was informed that everything can be done there in one day. The results, they say, will be ready in two weeks time. I purposely called back a few days later and spoke to a different person and they gave me the same info.

I mention this because it is different from what I was told a couple of months back when I was in Ghana and visited Akai House. Then they said it would require multiple vists. Anyway, according to what they are telling me now, everything is done in one day and two weeks later the results are in.
