Attack of the 50 Foot Pelosi

The 2010 campaign season is starting to shift into gear and with it has come some entertainng political ads. The most entertaining may be in Pennsylvania's 12th Congressional district. The ad is being run by Republican Tim Burns in a race to fill the seat left open by Representative Jack Murtha (D-PA).

As can be seen in the ad below. Speaker Nancy Pelosi is featured as a Frankenstein-like monster who is brought to life and enlarged by President Obama and Senator Harry Reid. Once she is enlarged the monster Pelosi goes on to destroy a power plant and crush a house. Eventually the monster Pelosi is stopped by regular citizens using their Burns campaign buttons to to reflect laser beams on Pelosi.

What the ad lacks in reality it makes up for in humor and well done animation. In reality, Rep. Burns will just be one Representative out of 435 if he is elected. Unless he is joined by 217 other Republicans he will have no ability to stop Speaker Pelosi from doing much. The ad is also based on the passage of cap-and-trade which, if it is passed, would be done before Burns took office. A repeal of cap-and-trade would then have to overcome a Presidential veto. Still, the Toy Story style graphics are impressive and even a Democrat could not help but chuckle at the image of monster Pelosi stomping on a house.

I do likes me some lazer beams, though - you betcha !!

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Do the electorate not care what policies the candidates are seeking election in order to implement? Seems not - political ads are simply cartoons. Time to demand more from the candidates.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Campaigning over here is more about employing the same techniques that Nick Toons uses to engage 4 year olds, than actually saying anything relevant. I am reminded of the commercials Old Spice is currently airing; to me, that is what US politics is like.

"Look down, back up, where are you? You’re on a boat with the man your man could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an oyster with two tickets to that thing you love. Look again, the tickets are now diamonds. Anything is possible when your man smells like Old Spice and not a lady. I’m on a horse.”

That's one of the few adverts I've seen on US tv and thought was clever :)
