But... I already answered your question, despite it having nothing to do with what I was talking about (before you horned in and accused me outright of holding opinions that I don't).

Now this is what I want to talk about - why won't you answer my question :(

Do we or do we not agree that calculating an arbitrary statistical probability of a latino person's likelihood of being a member of a gang is completely useless to law enforcement from a practical perspective; or do you agree with BY that using such reasoning as justification for wholesale racial profiling is perfectly fine and dandy?

Arbitrarily calculating anything is stupid. No one's likihood to "be anything" hqas anything to do with anything, most especially not illegal aliens.

as I have said many times, this issue brings out the stupid in people like none other. They all WANT illegals here, that is why we do nothing to stop them. we only pretend to do something to stop them. 70% of the people buy off on it and the politicians are safe, and that is the ONLY purpose of the law, to protect politicians in whatever the make-up of their area is.

BooYah WANTS illegals here. He wants them as subservient a underclass, basically slaves, to negate the effects of labor laws, etc. and keep costs for small business down. Basically, he likes cheapo lettuce and wants to keep it that way even if it means basically, slavery for a few million people. Brilliant. Pass laws to protect workers while creating a safety place to avoid the laws. Pass laws, like Arizona's, to drive illegals further underground and make them less likely to complain about exploitation. My guess is the Arizona illegals were getting a little uppity and needed to be whipped back down where they belong.

YOU want illegals here so that the Democrats can make them legal and eventually citizens to vote for Democrats. Once legal they will be immediately replaced by more illegals. Once an illegal is made "legal" he becomes unemployed as he loses the "value" he offered his employer. He doesn't have skills and education to market himself in the regulated labor market that exists in the USA. You don't think contractors hire Mexicans for roofing crews because they are great roofers, do you? The legal immigrant then relies on government programs to support him and his family which he can now qualify for (legally). Brilliant. Expand the dependent class.

BooYah cannot be honest about his desire and you cannot be honest about yours. NO ONE can be honest about the real problem because if 70% of the people ever pull their heads out of their @sses they will see what the real solution is. If anyone points out the elephant in the room, the debate shuts down and all the participants run like cockroaches for the crevices.

The opposing sides contort themselves into all sorts of useless arguments and positions to conceal what they really want but appela to their certain political bent.

I agree with you that ANY babble about statistics is useless and not only useless, but stupid. The ONLY statistic that matters is that illegals are here for $$$$. If we turn off the $$$$ by drawing and quartering (financially) any employer that exploits illegals we will turn off the reason anyone is here illegally.

Job done.

That's a lot of words you're putting in my mouth Gary.

I "want" illegal here to get votes for the Democrats? Why on earth do you think I give a toss about the Democrat party?

Sure.... and YOU want illegal here so you can go off on a repetitive, righteously indignant and self indulgent rant to massage your own ego.

Perhaps you should dispense with forums entirely, lock yourself in a room and talk to yourself all day...

Simple question.

I rarely agree with BY!'s POV when he uses statistics to prove a point, as the data is markedly skewed to being with. I said as much, when I first noticed his 'stuff' utilizing same, last year, and thought never to bring it up again, thinking it was enough to mention 'vetting of data' . Oh My - Silly Me !!! He's an agenda, and it shows.

It's one thing to spew statistics from any source. It's an entirely different thing to understand from where and HOW the data was collected, to make the stats. IMO, BY! never vetted the data sources, just grabbed some charts and ran with them.

Now, specifically to compute a confidence interval (of any percentage) of the like-lihood of a latino in the usa being a member of a gang ? Define the demographic of the data you wish to capture, and capture it, then try to see if this statistical probability is calcu-able, based on the data. Period.

IMO, it cannot be done. Also, IMO, is loads of conjecture, even from the 'stats houses' that are engaged to make this 'study'. Even with that said (from me), that it cannot be done - one __CAN__ take snapshots of data in CERTAIN areas. But - that's just a snapshot - anyone who thinks to EXTRAPOLATE a snapshot into other geographic areas, to finally cover the entire CONUS, is a fool - it just isn't do-able. Sure - political science instructors will claim it's a 'viable prediction' - but I still call foul.

FWIW, though - I'm betting is totally different analysis - between La Raza and FAIR. Give them both the same problem to compute, lets see what happens... Should they be using the same data sources? YOU BETCHA !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Isnt this a money issue. Arizona is beginning to drown in debt like its neighbor to the west. And the neighbor wants Arizona to be just like it. Poor..... I wonder.. TX is also on the border.. and running a surplus in its budget. I think it is a fiscal model for all the states. The LA fathers are dumb.. they already have driven the business out of CA.. .whats next. Or do we all want to pay more for something the idiots in Washington will dram up. Got to stop.... might as well start with Arizona. Ill support the Arizona instead of LA.

Texas spends absolutely squat on their infrastructure. Business has not been driven out of California. Are you just making things up as you go along, or do you have an actual source?

http://www.foxandhoundsdaily.com/blog/michelle-steel/6174-fortune-500%E2%80%99s-flee-california

California has been afflicted by the curse of the runaway corporation for sometime now. With the announcement on Monday that aerospace giant, Northrop Grumman Corp., will be moving its headquarters from Los Angeles to Washington D.C., we lose the last major aerospace firm in the state.

Northrop, California's 3rd largest Fortune 500 Company, is the most recent departure in a long list of top companies to leave the state. As reported in the Los Angeles Times, Northrop's relocation means only 19 Fortune 500's remain in California, when in 2006 there were 23. Though the company will still be one of the state's largest private employers, the loss is a blow to California, the birthplace of the aerospace industry.

Northrop's CEO, Wes Bush, says the company is moving its headquarters to be closer to its biggest client: the U.S. Government. But the move makes a bigger impact when we look at other industries that have been fleeing California. Hilton Hotels Corp. recently relocated to Fairfax, Virginia, to lower its cost of doing business. EBay, the online auction website with deep roots in San Jose, recently announced it will be creating 450 new jobs at a $334 million complex in Utah, in return for $30 million in tax breaks from the state. And there's much more....

CalPortland Cement, a 118 year old company that once gave us the cement to build our first freeways, announced recently that it's closing down its Riverside County plant because of new environmental regulations from AB 32. CalPortland's CEO, Jim Repman, recently told the State Senate Labor and Industrial Relations Committee "A cement plant cannot be picked up and moved, but the next new plant probably won't be built in California - meaning better, high paying manufacturing jobs will be lost to Nevada or China or somewhere."

Just yesterday, the Los Angeles City Council took its first step toward creating a new Film Commission, to prevent television and movie production from leaving the city. Production of feature films in Los Angeles - the home of the film industry - last year was about half of its 1996 peak. Production companies, like other businesses get tax breaks in other states that aren't available in California.

But, we can't blame runaway production, or runaway corporations, on the treats being offered by other states: we have to look at what our own business environment has become. Capitol Weekly is reporting that Governor Schwarzenegger plans to extend last February's tax increases, and to stall corporate tax credits in his new budget; he will call for an emergency session to see that it is done quickly. All the while, over 3,000 Californians leave the state every week.

This may be a wild assumption, but if everyone is running away from California, then maybe California is the problem.

I suppose it's natural for Kali and Tejas to be bitсhin' at each other in an online war. After all, according to Fortune Magazine, both states are tied at #1 in having the largest number of Fortune 500 company headquarters, at 57 each. New York is close behind at 56.

Texas spends absolutely squat on their infrastructure.

Are you sure about that ? I pay attention to the state budget each year, and Texas is spending some scheckels on infrastructure, ya betcha. I really don't wanna dig up the data for ya - but let me know if you need it for some other diatribe - I'll be happy to make the effort, and get it for ya.
