Hii everyone !!

Update: We got married yesterday in the courthouse. It was sweet short and simple.Just had his parents, his sister and her family, and my best buddy as our guests. We celebrated afterwards with a good lunch and some champagne.:)

I am thrilled to be a wife now.

Not so thrilled about all the paper-work and everything immigration yet! I want to be in denial of it all.:( Can I?

Anyway,I had a question.I never visited the SSA for the ssn card, since I have one,and I got married exactly 2 weeks after my POE.I am going to be changing my name, and I shall be going to the ssa for that.So a one time trip should be fine right? Will it serve as a name change and also help me get a new social security card?I hope I did not miss any step in between.

And also ,do I need to wait on my new social security card for sending in as part of the AOS paper-work?Or I could take that to the interview directly?

I would appreciate some help ladies!

I hope you all are settling in well after the travelling, the weddings etc! :)

Great news, congratulations!!!

I would suggest - based only on my experience - to wait with the name change on the SS card. I went in to get one after the wedding, and they would not issue it under my new married name, as it did not match with the name USCIS has on file. So I got it under my maiden name. I used that number on AOS papers, but you do not need one to file. I think in your case, you can use your already existing number - that will be the same after the name change.

I did my biometrics today - they had no problem with me showing up almost a month early :) Hope it might move my case along a little quicker...

Naddy - you still don't have EAD? Anwesha - did you say you got yours at POE? They didn't give me one either. Oh the randomness continues.

Yeay!! Got biometrics letter today - but the appointment is not until aug 5 :(

I think I will try to do a walk-in...

wooooo, I must get mine soon too then :)

Take a 2 weeks break :) you deserve it lol, or you could just file everything right away, and then your break will while waiting for the biometrics lol

For the SSN, the marriage certificate is a proof that you got married, you will need to tell them what will your new name be. But be careful, cos it have to be the same exact one that you will write down on the AOS papers. I had to argue with the lady telling her that I applyed for the AOS, and this is why my name on the SS should match the one on the AOS file. So I guess depends on your luck and how nice the lady/man are lol ;)

You will get the SS card 10-14 days after by mail, and no, you don't need to send a copy for the AOS, you just need to put the number in, but then again, do however you feel it's best :)

Wooo! We hope it is exactly that :) So happy to see you getting done ,or almost getting done with the USCIS for atleast some time.Hope Ewan gets that job in your lab soon !!

So we have begun filling out the AOS forms today. It is not very difficult, and we have everything from the recent paper-work,which we will be using again. It tickles me to now sign on the married box,and suddenly have a husband, and a cute one too

I had one doubt about the Advance Parole document though. Are we supposed to send in any documentation with it like why we might travel?I just came up with a random travel date. The example form in VJ is not very clear also.

Hugs to all :)

Wow the ssa sure does wok super fast in my city! I had applied for a name change on my ssn on the 14th and I had my new ssn card delivered to me yest ,the 16th!! that is fast

Well am happy!! But it says something like 'DHS authorization'.I remember Megan saying something about Ewan having the same restriction. What is this and do I have to go back to them once I have the conditional green card approved later?

We cannot work right ,unless we have the EAD or the green card?

Happy weekend to all lovelies (F)(F)

Congratulations Anwesha on you being married now. Lovely.

As for SSN/driving licences/AOS - not lovely! I went to see about getting my SSN last week. I live 26 miles out in the country so to go into the city takes effort! I went, room full of folks, was told to take a number and sit down (no seats left!). Waiting time? Around 2 hours. Well girls, I so could not face it, so I left! Will have to try facing again next week.

I had one doubt about the Advance Parole document though. Are we supposed to send in any documentation with it like why we might travel?I just came up with a random travel date. The example form in VJ is not very clear also.

I think we just put "unknown" for the date, and explained that we were filing for the AP "just in case." I can't find our saved form, unfortunately, otherwise I'd tell you verbatim what we wrote...

NICE on that SS card! I don't think it's crucial to go back and get a new card, since the EAD or the green card IS the DHS authorization you're waiting for. However, if you change jobs or something, it might be easier at the startup with a SS card that doesn't have the restriction on it...

And yeah, as far as I know, you must wait for either EAD or green card to work. And MAN, I hope we get one of those soon, because we're both going NUTS waiting for Ewan to be able to work. Ugh.

Congratulations Anwesha on you being married now. Lovely.

Gross! I don't blame you for leaving! Bring a book and/or headphones next time, eh?

I've been trying to get Ewan used to driving in my car and on the right side of the road and in the place of crazy drivers that is Miami (geez, it's digusting...) so that he can be ready to take the driving test when his EAD or green card comes, but it's slow going, a bit. He gets frustrated with it fast. I'm trying to remember my own learning to drive in NZ experiences and be patient....

We are finally no more lurkers on this thread! We sent off our paper-work for AOS today.Well let me be more specific and revel in my tiny joys.I sent off our paper-work.John let me be in charge and drive the car to the post-office ,all by myself! I was thrilled but I wore this serious expression.I kept doing a mental checking of all the required documents, lest we forgot any.I was very nervous and John had to calm me down and say it was not an exam.whistling.gif

Anyhoo, so that was done, express way! Another long wait, but this time the husband is here heart.gif

I also experimented with my driving and drove around and went to the grocery store and got us some supplies.I felt good weird, like shopping for a family of two now, being very prudent and feeling very good.

hehe! I hope Mrs.D you have a much much better luck in your next trip to the ssa.I also did have to wait, but may be you could take an appointment instead of just showing up.I know that's what some people did in my city's ssa.Good luck to everyone !!

Congrats, sweetness! Welcome to the AOS line! We're getting Ewan driving, poor dear. It's tough switching sides and trying to figure out my tempremental little car.

Yuhoo! Seems like Ewan's EAD got approved today kicking.gifkicking.gifkicking.gif

what joy :) Now he can go work and bring home the bacon (wink wink)

So well do not get me started about John's car.It is a 1997 Geo,might be older, and that green car has 4 doors alright, but only 3 work,no AC and the driver's seat cannot be lifted up,which makes me lift my neck at an odd angle to be able to see the road and people ;)

But I actually love how good the brakes work, perfect! I love driving that for now.
