Oh. my. goodness.

Just when we thought we were out of the woods...

Got home last night to find a letter from the USCIS. It contained a change of address form and an RFE that had been returned to sender and sent back to us, asking for the FULL MEDICAL!!   And of course, they didn't extend the date, so it's due by Oct. 21st.

I'm so torn because I don't want to pay a zillion more dollars to do another bloody medical which we don't even need.

Of course, there's the confusion that the online system says that the card is in production, so I called the customer service line, and talked to two people. One person said that yes, it was in production, but then she transferred me to someone else who said, "Document production can mean anything that they send to you." #######?! So, we've made an infopass appt, but couldn't get in until Oct. 14, meaning that we only have a week to answer the RFE after if that's what they tell us to do.

SO FRUSTRATED!!

Aw mate. That blows. What is up with all the medicals anyway? We've already proved we have no infectious diseases, why can't they just leave us alone?

I am edging ever closer to joining the AOS club :) Last day of work Friday, fly out 2 weeks on Thursday. Nervousness and excitement mean I have permanent butterflies :)

I also had a call with a guy in my business yesterday, he's told me to give him a call when I get stateside as he may have some marketing jobs available in New York!! Would be awesome to have a job lined up, but it would mean a big move from Orlando to NYC...plus he didn't give me a chance to mention the lack of work authorisation ;)

Meg, really hope you get everything sorted with USCIS. Very soon you will be done with them for 2 years - I suggest you have a party :D

Dear God!! That sucks mad.gif

There should be a way to really complain against this, cos the medicals should be good for a year and you guys are clearly safe.I hope you can sort out this mess and once its over, even though you would feel cheated for a stupid stupid RFE, it still will be worth it.

Good Luck both of you!

Anwesha, I'm sure you'll get some luck soon on the job front. Congrats on the GC in production! What sweet news!

We had an infopass on Thursday, and they told us we can send a letter asking them to look for the lost medical and join it with the file when they find it, so we've done that, and hopefully it will work!

Great! Good for you, Jess! Are you getting excited?!

I am very excited but also very nervous and a bit emotionally overwhelmed at the moment!! In the last few days I have said goodbye to my best friend, my flatmate (and also my own best man :)), my step-dad and moved out of my flat in Leeds where I've lived for 2 years, the longest I've lived anywhere since before I went to university...my friends and family are my whole world so the last few days have reminded me how strong I will have to be to not let the homesickness break me. But I know once I get stateside and I'm living it I'll be ok :)

Only 2h20m to get through immigration at Chicago though...wish me luck!!

OK I'm in departures!!! Drinking a double G&T at 8.30am, which is definitely a record...just said goodbye to my friends and family (my 2 best friends surprised me at the airport which was AMAZING but made me cry!!) so I'm a bit tearful and a bundle of nerves, but holding it together...here we go...

That's great, congrats Anwesha!

Our file has been sent back to the Miami office and we're in Initial Review again. Looks like we're back to the beginning of the process and in for a long haul. But hopefully we won't have to re-do the biometrics, and at least Ewan has his work permit. So whatever, as long as we get the GC eventually, and don't have to hire a lawyer or pay hundreds of dollars for a new medical (the ol' student salary isn't too kind to expenditures like that...) we're cool.

Hey everyone!!

Well I'm here :) first couple of days were quite emotional, I became ill on the plane so coupled with an extended layover in Chicago I was in a bit of a state by the time I got to Orlando!! Immigration was fine, just 15 minutes and I was through (I absolutely pelted it from the plane and got to the front of the line, fortunately!).

I've got my driving license sorted (despite a note on my record saying I'd been driving without insurance in 2008 because the ******** I sold my car to never took the title to the DMV to re-register it, grrr) and just got medical cover to sort me til the big day, so I'm getting settled gradually. Jason is being great and is being very patient with my emotional rollercoaster :) Anyway, I'm excited to be here!

Welcome to the USA Miss Jess!!!!! It's not an easy time now, all the adjusting, but you'll get into it in no time :)

Congrats to Anwesha an JI_n_JL for the GC!!!!

Megan - I admire you for being so cool about it and you're right, you are together, so no rush. Hope to see you approved soon, though.

I have been away for a while - my family finally came over to visit and we finally introduced the parents to each other, even had a little wedding party down in FL. :) :) :) It was great to have them here, I was really getting homesick. :(

Also, we will be moving to Orlando for a few months, so if any of you Florida girls feel like it, we should meet in person :)

All the best & lots of love and patience to everyone!

Brilliant!! I'm an Orlando girl too :D Let me know when you get here (and the weather is AWESOME right now btw ;))

I had my first encounter with the US healthcare system in 5 years today - I purchased medical insurance to cover me in the month between me arriving and getting hitched, which is just as well given I've been here less than 2 weeks and I'm already on antibiotics :(

As a Brit used to the free-at-the-point-of-use NHS (even if we effectively pre-pay with fairly hefty taxes!), coughing up $50 for the appointment was quite painful especially as the receptionist was a snotty b***h who said they didn't accept my insurance (even though we'd rung and checked. Twice.). But the doctor was very nice. It was a really weird experience - my doctor back home was a city-centre practice and fairly modern but it was still quite small - this place was really large with TVs in the examination rooms and the doc taking all my notes on a touch screen laptop!!

Anyway, the appointment was $50 but my prescriptions were only $4 each which is much cheaper than back home, so it's not all as bad as I thought... :)
