I-129F question 18

Hi!

I've been reading for a while. Me and my fiancé are finally putting our K1 package together, but while filling in the I-129F we got stuck at question 18, and I was hoping someone here could help us!

Our situation is:

We met in August 2005 in The Netherlands. Since then we've been visiting each other in both the US as the Netherlands as much as we could. Since I am now finally getting done with grad school, we are now starting our K1 process.

The thing we were confused about regarding question 18 is whether they want to know if we have met for the first time in the last two years OR if we have met in person in the last two years.

If they want the first, our answer would be 'NO', it they want the second, it would be 'YES'. Also the details would be different. The story of how we met is different than the story of how we met in the last two years.

Thanks so much!

Clint

Al right, so I have answered the question with a 'YES', and wrote about half a page (1.5 spaced) first explaining how we met in 2005 and then explaining when/how we met in person the last two years. We're including pictues of those last two years, boarding passes and passport stamps. That should do it?

Thanks!

Sounds like you got it covered.

I also sent a hotel receipts that showed I was in her city and some restaurant receipts that coincided with photos we took at places we ate. Also had some pics with her family and friends too.

I front loaded my petition because we were going through a high fraud consulate though.

Only describe the meeting in person, within the last two years, that your supporting evidence you're sending along is about. They only want to know about this one meeting, of your choosing, not your life history.

I am assuming this is the same thing as the letter of intent. The letter should be on how and when you met and describe a timeline of your relationship, like how you got engaged and why the beneficiary wants to the US and not otherwise. Sign and date the letter.

Aya

The purpose of the letters of intent is to satisfy the requirements of section 5B of the I-129F instructions, which state:

Provide original statements from you and your fiancé(e)whom you plan to marry within 90 days of his or her admission, and copies of any evidence you wish to submit to establish your mutual intent;

In other words, they just need a signed statement from each of you saying you intend to get married, and that you plan to do so within 90 days of his/her arrival. The sample letters provided on this site are more than adequate to meet this requirement. You don't need to provide a timeline of your relationship or explanations about why the beneficiary wants to move to the US. That additional information might be useful if you're dealing with a difficult consulate (Egypt is probably on this list), and you want to frontload your petition with evidence of a bona fide relationship, but it isn't necessary to include this information in the letter of intent. You can make separate attachments for that sort of thing.

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

No No, the letters of intent are signed by each swearing that they are free to marry and that they intend to marry the Petitioner/Beneficiary within 90 days of arrival using the K-1 Visa.

It's that simple. No history or love story. Just letter stating your intention to get married.
