AOS Interview - Additional Documentation Needed

Husband and I went to our AOS interview. We think everything went well, except that the IO wanted the "long form" of husband's birth certificate. They said that in Canada - there are two kinds of birth certificates - the short form which does not have the parents name, and the long form, which does. The original, which I had and submitted was the short version - and insufficient for the IO

IO gave us a letter called I-72, showed us a website where to get his long form birth certificate. He told us to mail a copy of the long-form birth certificate with the I-72. We did this immediately. Does anyone have any idea how long his AOS will be delayed? I'm worried that this little mistake will cost us months.

That's crazy! I just submitted the short version + my birth registration and I was fine. I guess each IO is different!

Good Luck, I'm sure a swift approval will follow :)

Yes! It does looks like every IO is different. Some are picky about different things. I thought our interview would be as easy as pie because we have nothing to hide and have been a couple for 8 years and known each other for 10 years.

I think some of the things that made him suspicious were the ff:

1. In the insurance coverage, I (USC)was covered for medical, while husband (L1 visa) had medical, dental and vision.

2. We had a small wedding with few family members. I think they like to see family is involved

3. He was first wondering why our pictures were from all one location/time. I think he relaxed when he saw other occasions.

4. the one thing he really could not get over, is that I am not working/can't find a job. After awhile, I explained that I am picky (i'm a dentist) and i don't want to be made to work far from my husband. i think this settled the IO too.

5. also, i assumed that our knowing each other for 10 years proved our long friendship. IO was just like - "oh, could your husband have had an agenda earlier on?"

i suppose they are trained to look for frauds but i am sure they can also tell if it's real after doing this a gazillion times. in the end though, he was nice and very helpful. overall, it was an OK experience.

btw - checked just now on uscis website - case got APPROVED and card is on production. Guess they do work quick after the request additional documentation.
