A friend of mine has a Lexmark, and he's always complaining about having to buy ink for it. I read somewhere that Lexmark is the worst of the inkjet printers on that, but he won't switch.

I have a cheap Brother laser printer for most stuff, and an Epson R200 I got free w/ a digital camera for color when i need it. Has 7 cartridges (6 color 1 black).

I agree ... I never replace a cartridge until the print quality starts to be affected.

That said, where the heck are y'all buying your cartridges? I have a great high-quality all-in-one (printer/copier/fax/scanner with card reader for digital photos) Canon that I adore, I pay $7 for the black ink at Target and $14 for the colored ink at Office Max. Granted that Canons go through ink faster than most brands, but I still only replace the black ink every three weeks or so and the colored every couple months.

The only four-color printer I've had was a Brother, and it was a bloody nightmare. $25 for black ink and $20 for each of the colors. Granted they lasted a long time, but man, my pocketbook felt it when they needed replacing!

I know, My Lexmark printer ran out of ink a few weeks ago. The printer cost me $80 and the ink I bought for it cost $60. If they had another $80 Lexmark I would have just bought a new printer. Pretty wasteful to just throw away a perfectly good printer though. Some places offer reconditioned cartrages. If it were not a pressing matter to get my printer going I would have ordered some.
