Just got back from our honeymoon

We've been off having honeymoon-like adventures for the last week and a half-yay! We got home a few hours ago and noticed a funky smell...I thought it was the Burger King my hubby had accidentally left on the desk, so we chucked that.

A little while later he went to look in the fridge for some diet coke and was nearly knocked off his feet with the smell! Our fridge/freezer has died and taken a months' worth of groceries with it. I'm *so* angry, particularly since we were budgeted to the hilt with having taken our honeymoon this month. Grr!

Now our flat smells and we can't seem to conquer it. The fridge is in pieces and all scrubbed (in hopes it can be repaired) but the smell just seems ingrained in it! I'm starting to feel ill from the bleach/smell.

Ah well, at least our honeymoon was good!

I'm so irritated because I *really* thought we had taken care of every little thing to avoid coming back to something like this. My flat smells and I have to go to work tomorrow so I can't even spend the time airing it... :crying:

You should get some febreeze ASAP. It really works to get funky smells out...that is if it is ingrained in fabrics and such.

a baking soda rinse might help a bit too, generally it takes away a lot of odors

OUR K-3 INTERVIEW WAS ON NOV. 1ST @ 10:00!!!

VISA APPROVED!!!

WE ARRIVE IN THE USA ON NOV. 10TH!!!

Right before our wedding in the middle of 95+ degree heat our freezer was accidentally left slightly ajar.

We noticed it fairly soon after, as we had mostly seafood in there. :dead:

I feel for you, I really do. Took us several washings and airing out the garage to get it back to reasonable. Certainly not something we needed to do in the week before the wedding (at our house), that's for sure.

I'm glad the honeymoon was good. :)

So sorry to hear about the fridge! :( I can only imagine what it must smell like, and I always hate when good food gets wasted for no reason.

Glad you had a good honeymoon though! :D:thumbs:

Might I suggest a lot of Arm&Hammer Baking Powder if you have it there... it will help! :)

Been there too Gwen...Febreeze or baking soda are both good to get rid of funky smells like that. Hope you get rid of the smell though, nothing worse than having to smell something icky for days on end. Glad you two had a great honeymoon though. :star:

Thanks, everyone. We got home too late to get to the shops but tomorrow I'm going to try to get some baking soda (I have no idea if we have it here or no) and see if that helps. At the moment all is soaking in bleach and water, and all of the windows are open to try to get the smell out.

Seriously, the smell is still making me gag. :(

A broken fridge is hard to plan for.

" To freshen a smelly refrigerator, scrub the refrigerator with an all-purpose cleaner such as Spic and Span or Soilax. Clean every crack and crevice, and pay particular attention to the rubber gaskets around the door. Remove all drawers and wash all surfaces.

Clean the drain pan located below the refrigerator. You will need to remove the lower panel in the front or rear of the refrigerator to reach this pan. The pan periodically catches moisture as the freezer de-fr osts or the refrigerator drains condensation. Most people don't know it exists, and if you've never cleaned yours, you may find some pretty awful stuff growing there.

You also need to clean the drain line from the freezer and refrigerator to the drain pan. You can flush your cleaning solution down the drains located in the bottom of the refrigerator and the freezer.

Finally, you can leave an open container of baking soda, coffee grounds, or activated charcoal in the refrigerator. These materials will help absorb odors. (Activated charcoal is used to filter water in fish tanks.)

Nonsence will also eliminate odors from refrigerators. You can buy it at appliance stores. After use, the product can be refreshed by placing it outside in the sunlight and fresh air. "

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
