Hi Guys,

Maybe the wrong forum for this question.

I filed for k1 a month ago but I also want her family to be here for the wedding whenever that is going to be. My question(s) are:

1.) What type of visa (non immigrant but what type)???

2.) I get the feeling that If I sponser them it is a easier process since I am a citizen. True???

3.) Should we even tell USCIS that the family is coming over for a wedding. I am afraid a CO might think that her family is taging along to come to US on visitor but will never leave and thus deny them entry on fraud basis.

4.) How soon should we start the process?

I am pretty sure some of the people here (from India) have done this, so their input will be especially helpful.

tourist visa B2

no always, it is best that they demonstrate that they have strong ties to return

3.) Should we even tell USCIS that the family is coming over for a wedding. I am afraid a CO might think that her family is taging along to come to US on visitor but will never leave and thus deny them entry on fraud basis.

Apply for B1 after getting your visa. It won't be possible for getting visa for your entire family... If you have like two sisters(unmarried) and parents, You will be able to claim ties only if you apply for your Mom OR Dad.

Lets us hope for the best....

I will do the same too.

Good Luck

No I am not applying for my family. All my family is already in states and we all are USC. I am talking about my fiance's family, so they can attend the wedding here. Otherwise it would just suck for her to be getting married not have any of here family here.

OH I was wondering the same thing. My mom and sister were thinking about applying for a tourist visa so maybe they could attend our wedding in the states. they are gonna call in a couple of weeks and set an appointment at the embassy and they will probably schedule it around January or February and hopefully by that time I will have my K1 visa in Hand (if everything goes well). So yeah What if they take a letter with them to the embassy telling them that they are gonna attend our wedding? or should they just say that they are gonna go spend vacations there?. As newlife2010 said, I am afraid they will think that they just want to stay there illegaly. Any suggestion?

The entire family is not going to be granted tourist visas at the same time unless they can all, individually, show VERY strong ties to India.

Tourist visas are always a ####### shoot. 50/50 chance of getting one.

They will need SIGNIFICANT and OVERWHELMING ties to their home country in order to convince the CO that they will not overstay their welcome in the U.S.

Tourist visas are granted on the qualifications of the applicant and not on the assurances or promises of a USC.

You may, however, provide a letter of invitation.

Hey...My parents are appearing for their visa interview tomorrow at the New Delhi center...And my K1 visa appointment is scheduled for next week.

Ideally, they should have applied after I would have got my K1 but, due to high volume at the embassy for tourist visa's, they got the appointment before I could appear for mine. My dad went to US way back in 1992 and my mom went in 1997 and once before she got married. So, since both have returned and I also went thrice on B1/B2 and returned and then applied for K1, our case according to me seems strong. No one ever tried to stay back in my family.

Both of them have siblings in the US but, I asked my fiance to sponsor them and asked for an invitation letter from him for them. Maybe you should also sponsor them because that way it looks genuine. In fact, you shouldn't hide anything from them because they have all the information of family members on the data base they use.

And maybe I can help you more after we get to know the results tomorrow.
