Pelosi to Bishops: Talk Up Immigration

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is telling Catholic bishops who want her to pass immigration reform that they must speak out in favor of the reform in their churches.

“The cardinals, the archbishops, the bishops come to me and say, ‘We want you to pass immigration reform,’” Pelosi, who is Catholic herself, said Thursday at the Catholic Community Conference.

“And I say, ‘But I want you to speak about it from the pulpit.’”

This is the same Pelosi who drew strong rebuke from Catholic Church leaders in 2008 by arguing that the denomination's doctrine is unclear on when human life begins. She made that contention in defense of abortion.

As for immigration, Pelosi said last week that, as a practical matter, the United States can’t say to 12 million illegal immigrants, “’Go back to wherever you came from or go to jail.’”

And she was quite clear as to what she expects out of bishops.

“I want you to instruct your, whatever the communication is — the people, some of them, oppose immigration reform are sitting in those pews, and you have to tell them that this is a ‘manifestation of our living the gospels,’” Pelosi said.

“Our patron saint of San Francisco, St. Francis of Assisi, he said, ‘Preach the gospel — sometimes use words.’ We need the words to be said because it isn’t being picked up automatically.”

In the 2008 dispute, Pelosi said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” show: "I would say that as an ardent, practicing Catholic, this is an issue that I have studied for a long time. And what I know is, over the centuries, the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition [when life begins] . . . The point is, is that it shouldn’t have an impact on the woman’s right to choose.”

An array of bishops blasted those remarks, with Bishop Michael Sheridan of Colorado Springs, Colo., saying, “Those Catholics who take a public stance in opposition to the most fundamental moral teaching of the church place themselves outside full communion with the church, and they should not present themselves for the reception of Holy Communion.”

But the US can say "if you stay here you will starve because there are no jobs, you better head to Mexico to feed your family"

It's just that those pesky Dumbocrats can't seem to shake that wet dream of millions upon millions of future amnestied illegal aliens voting the straight Dumbocratic ticket into eternity for amnestying them and lavishing entitlements on them. The millions of past amnestied illegal aliens that already do vote for them in droves aren't enough to push them over the top yet. If they can't get the native population to buy their bullshit, they have to import poverty stricken dependent foreigners hook or crook to do it. Sad and disgusting, but true. What other explanation can there be for the Dumbocrats ####### obsession with detering any deterent to illegal immigration and their ####### obsession with amnesty with a pathway to citizenship (Dumbocratic voter card)? I thought this insane notion would die as the US unemployment rate hit 10%, but it is still full steam ahead with these idiots.

That is so wrong on so many levels that only a moron would fail to grasp it. Yet Pelosi gets reelected year after year as do the other idiots that push this agenda. Why do the American people continue to put up with this #######? Especially now with millions of our own citizens unemployed and/or underemployed?

Not quite. The illegals - mostly from south of the border - are predominantly Catholic. The Bishops would certainly like to grow their flocks. ;)

It was just a bit of wishful thinking. It's late and it's a Monday. :innocent:

peejay! You can come to California and pick grapes any time you want. laughing.gif

The problem is that these people aren't just picking grapes and lettuce for sub-minimum wage. They are working offshore as welders and construction worker for less than an American would work for, but for way more than minimum wage.

you lie! they only do jobs americans won't do.

I've been driving to Lousiana from Texas on and off for 26 years to go to work offshore. It has only been in the last 2 years that I have regularly seen the US Border Patrol regularly cruising I-10 in Lake Charles, LA looking to pull over suspected illegal aliens. They are a regular presence even that far east on I-10. New Orleans is now full of illegals. When are the American people going to wake up and demand the politicians do something other than promise mass amnesty as a solution (as if that is some sort of deterent)?

Sub-minimum wage hell! Those folks are all organized and making two to three times what you can get working retail. Some of the workers are getting together, and buying out the small farmers they work for! It's capitalism at it's best.

ETA: Whitey and Blackey are too lazy, and would rather panhandle than work for a decent wage.
