My husband owns a house, and we are interested in putting my name on the papers, you know, to help with the AOS. I am sure some of you have done this in the past, can you tell me how? I have no idea how to do it!

:luv: Thanks!

I'm in the same situation. My husband owns the house, but it would be really complicated to add me to it, because of the mortgage and how he's currently trying to get it refinanced and all. We're just going to leave that bit alone and hope we get approved on other evidence.

I owned the house before Nik got here (indeed, before we were engaged - but while we were dating) and there was no comment, not even a disapproving facial expression.

Here's how it went during the relationship evidence portion of the interview:

IO: Do you have a lease or anything...?

Me: No, I own our house.

IO: When did you buy it?

Me: Around August 2008.

She looked at some papers, I assume double checking dates on things - we were engaged and filed in Jan 2009 - and then moved on. We were approved.

K-1:

January 28, 2009: NOA1

June 4, 2009: Interview - APPROVED!!!

October 11, 2009: Wedding

AOS:

December 23, 2009: NOA1!

January 22, 2010: Bogus RFE corrected through congressional inquiry "EAD waiting on biometrics only" Read about it here.

March 15, 2010: AOS interview - RFE for I-693 vaccination supplement - CS signed part 6!

March 27, 2010: Green Card recieved

ROC:

March 1, 2012: Mailed ROC package

March 7, 2012: Tracking says "notice left"...after a phone call to post office.

More detailed time line in profile.

Oh, OK. Then yeah, the less complication in my life the better. We have a car and most important of all...A KITTY. That will definitely provide proof of a solid relationship!

Seriously, though, I am not doing it if it has to go through a lawyer. Too much $$$.

haha! Does pulling out the cat pictures equate to pulling out the baby pictures? What if I put a cute little hat on them? Will have to keep this in mind for ROC, as we intend to continue our child free lifestyle through that time.

You don't need a lawyer, all you need to do is contact the title company that handled your closing. They'll produce an addendum to the deed that adds her name as a legal owner of the property. She doesn't need to be on the loan in order to be named on the deed, so don't worry about the mortgage / bank, just the title company. (Expect to pay $300 - $400 to the title company to do this.)

AOS - Adjusting from F-1 student visa via marriage:

03 May 2010 - Sent I-130, I-485, I-765

05 May 2010 - Delivered (USPS tracking confirmed)

10 May 2010 - Checks cashed (goodbye $1365)

14 May 2010 - 3 receipts received (I-130, I-485, I-765) via USPS (I-797C NOA)

01 Jun 2010 - Biometrics appt notification received for 16 June 2010

07 Jun 2010 - Successful biometrics walk-in (SLC, UT Support Center)

30 Jun 2010 - Notification that first biometrics appt didn't provide good fingerprints, scheduled another appt

02 Jul 2010 - 2nd successful biometrics walk-in (SLC, UT Support Center)

14 Jul 2010 - EAD card production ordered! (I-765 finally touched, no touches on other forms yet)

20 Jul 2010 - Interview appointment notification for 20 Aug 2010!

20 Aug 2010 - AOS interview, Salt Lake City (APPROVED, and incredibly friendly/easy!)

31 Aug 2010 - Green card arrived in mail

Removing Conditions:

24 May 2012 - Sent I-751 w/ evidence to USCIS - CA Service Center.

26 May 2012 - I-751 package delivered (USPS tracking confirmed)

15 Jun 2012 - I-751 NOA-1 received via USPS (dated 29 May 2012)

11 Jul 2012 - I-751 biometrics completed (Salt Lake City USCIS office)

7 Feb 2013 - I-751 approval letter received (dated 5 Feb 2013)

8 Feb 2013 - Permanent green card received in mail (condition free!)

That's funny as we sent in our cats' vet visit info for both of our kitties for ROC - named on the papers as their owners.

This is actually an excellent idea, si man. Am still trying to brainwash the spouse that the cat is our "daughter," si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Why would anyone do that when you can have a lawyer draw up a new deed for a couple hundred tops?

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

I have brought up the same thing at our AOS interview :)

Tarumba-I wouldn't hassle having my name added to the house title. If your name shows up on the house bills-that's definitely a proof that you live there. If you think that's not enough, you can get some affidavits from your neighbors proving your address. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not adding my spouse to the deed just to impress Removal of Conditions which is next up for us. I'd rather hang on to my couple hundred dollars and prove the relationship other ways. It's nothing against my spouse. We (I) bought a new house since he got the GC, but we needed to move fast to get an offer in once we found it. I didn't want to get into new immigrant, no US credit history, etc. and slow down the process.

We are in the process of buying our first home. The finance company wouldn't even allow my wife to be added to the loan or deed at this time until she has "status". You might want to check into that and wait until after you receive your GC. I thought it was kind of odd we couldn't add her but whatever I guess at this point. They did say once she receives her AOS/status that it was fairly simple to add her at that time. Basically contact the title company and they said it would be around a 50 dollar charge involved. I do believe you need to have a lawyer write up the deed.

:luv: Thanks!

What i can tell you comes from my own personal experience.

When I did AOS, I presented wedding pics, older pics together, my name on the cars insurance card, my name on my hubbie ERS papers, my name on my hubbie medical coverage. We never did joint accounts nor add my name to the home mortgage.

Now that i am getting ready to remove conditions I know that If my husband adds me to the house mortgage, because of my lack of credit (AKA bad credit) his loan % would raise and that's not good for us.

I am not either on his bank account but I opened an account on another bank where he is the secondary.

Also with the intention of getting a better credit score I am paying for a car with him being the "back up".

Therefore.... IMO if you want to be on the house papers i think it will complicate mre things than help.

Katie
