The return flight might be more expensive since they would be buying the tickets on short notice...but it would be worth it if they could fly to the States together.

Many times the ticket prices drop quite a bit in the days just before the flight as the airlines want to get as many seats on the plane as possible. Of course by doing this you do have fewer flights to choose from. When I bought the tickets for Anna & Gabby I my price for tickets the following day was about $200 cheaper than if I had purchased the same tickets just a week earlier.

thanks for your advice,

the route we are taking is i am going to fly to manila with a return ticket and with a one way booked for my wife about a week after her interview. we are going to ask the interviewer if we can pick up the visa there at the embassy, and keep our fingers crossed that they allow us to. if they say no we will wait for it to be delivered. and pray it all happens in one week. if it is delayed then we will reschedule both flights for the fee which should not be too much maybe $100.

three one way tickets will cost more then 1 one way and 1 round trip delayed, as far as i can tell.

i will report back to this thread the results so that people will know what happened.

thanks.

I like your idea of being open to reschedule your flight if you need too. It is a small price to pay in exchange for the opportunity to fly to the States together with your sweetheart.!

And, as Bob said, you might even pay less for your flight when you reschedule.

Good luck with everything. :star:

Look at timelines of other people, 10 days or more is not that uncommon.

That is my best advice too.

Maybe the original poster can spend more time in the Philippines in order to attend his fiancée's interview, and to either pick up her visa or wait for it at her home.

The return flight might be more expensive since they would be buying the tickets on short notice...but it would be worth it if they could fly to the States together.

hello everyone who might be reading this.

i went ahead and ordered two plane tickets one month ago one was a round trip for me, and one was a one way for my wife on the same flight as my return flight. this return flight was one week after the interview date. after the consular told us the visa was approved i asked him if we could pick it up there and he told me that they prefer only to do that in a medical or family emergency situation. we then decided to go with having it delivered via air21 which only took two days to deliver it to us in metro manila.

however our friends who had their interview the same day were able to pick theres up. i believe the excuse they gave was that they were staying in the hotel across the street.

so i believe it is the consulars discretion as suggested, so my advice for anyone wanting to follow the same route would be to get a hotel in manila if your beneficiary does not live there and just have air21 deliver it to the hotel as it only takes 2 business days.

good luck.

Hello Tahoma,

As said it is completely up to the CO if you can pick up the visa or not.

Even if he is agreeable...WHEN you can pick it up is totally to his discretion also.

A few (very few) have been able to pick it up on the same day!

of those who can pick it up.....it is usually that the embassy will get your phone number and call when it can be picked up (usually next day or day after).

Most of the time however.....they will not allow it to be picked up (at least that is what happens currently).

You will receive a shipping number from Air21 and when it is received by them...it will show when the beneficiary can expect to receive it.

That will be totally dependant upon where in PI the beneficiary lives.

Now the important part: What is the criteria the CO will use to determine if the applicant can pick up the visa?

1) Is his coffee fresh?

2) Did his wife please him before he comes to work?

3) Does someone cut him off in traffic then?

4) Has he eaten his donut yet?

5) does he have headache?

6) does his brother-in-law ask for loan today?

7) does he think the girl across the room is winking at him?

8) does he think the guy across the room is winking at him?

9) does he have upset stomach and need to get relief?

10) well....I think you understand what the criteria is then!!!!
