Jim, I've read that thread. I sort of doubt the mere existence of the round trip ticket caused the problem for the OP. I would speculate that hundreds of thousands of people have adjusted status who entered the US on a round-trip ticket.

Something else is afoot in the thread you referenced, although I can't begin to say what that may be.

I work in an Airline, as a sales agent, as soon as you buy the ticket as a round fare, you can contact the airline, if the fare permits changes and leave that portion open until new date of use, is valid for one year from the date of purchase and def there will be a penalty for changes, if that is the rules of the fare, and/or dif in fare if applicable for new date of travel...

Just call as soon as you use the first portion, leave it open, thats it....
