hello everyone! I am from the Philippines and had lived in vietnam few years ago.

Can anyone help me about police clearance for foreigners(justice record check)? i have obtained my police clearance already from the local police office of where i had lived last november 2009.

do you know if there's a validity for this clearance? it's not written in my police clearance and i want to know if this has expiry and how long this will be valid.

i'm still processing my papers, what should i do if this police clearance is already expired? it's difficult to go back to vietnam to request again.

anyone, help me please. I really need advice.

Thank you and good day!

It's up to the consulate where you will interview. The consulate in HCMC will accept a police certificate up to one year after it's issued, but the embassy in Manila could ask that it be more recent. It's really up to them.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

If you are wanting to move back to vietnam, the police clearance is only good for 6 months, so you would need to go back right before you came to your local police and get a new one done. This is just for the work permit as others have pointed out for visa applications it is a different story, but I think you were wanting to know about moving here not a visa so it is 6 months on your police clearance. What is the police clearance needed for? That is the real question, if you are wanting a work permit for Vietnam then it is only good for 6 months, if you are trying to do some sort of visa in a different country then they should be able to get you a police certificate since you are living there. The embassy can not issue a police clearance, you will have to go to the local police station and request one there, the only thing that the embassy can do is issue an affadavit that you are swearing the information is correct. Hopefully this helps clear things up, but for the best advice you need to tell us exactly what you are needing the police clearance for, if it is for a visa then the one you have should be good for up to one year unless the consulate wants something more recent, but as I said if you are looking to get a work permit then it is only good for 6 months Jerome

oh the police clearance is for my K1 visa requirement.US embassy requires for it if you have lived/worked outside your country for at least 6 months, and i had worked in vietnam for 9 months. I already have a police clearance but I don't know the validity(and i forgot to ask) so that's why i'm posting my query here. so if you're saying it's good for a year then my police clearance is still good, i'm crossing my fingers.

thanks jeromebinh, that was a relief. have a great day.

In that case it should be good for 1 year, but.... you are not currently in Vietnam, so the police clearance basically shows while you were here there was not any criminal issues and it should be fine for you. Good Luck Jerome and Binh

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
