You missed the point regarding companies. These are no-military companies. It's them who is bring in the bucks you mentioned earlier. Fact still remains that for every dollar spent, the military has the lowest ROI.

You also missed the point regarding engineers and the military.

i didn't miss the point. didn't think i had to tell you that i changed the subject (sorry).

nope, nothing at all. the world is not perfect, the USA is not perfect, there are too many kinds of people in america for america to be the same everywhere.

many have moved out of the south for they wanted something different which is the way to go if you aren't satsified. for some, the south and midwest are an escape to a simply life and there isn't a thing wrong with that. opportunities are abound for the poor if they so choose to chase them so i see "poor" as their choice.

You sound like a military guy.

Once again you missed the point.

Is it better to blow up the $1 trillion annually or invest it in America, on Americans and on projects that will last for decades? Like the interstates.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

sure it is better, but this is america, not AUS or norway or a host of many other bystanders. the world looks to us to lead and protect so we can't so easily diss the military. if countries like norway, AUS and others contributed more in all aspects of everything "international," america just might be in a position to diss the military to a greater degree.

ever noticed, when america tries to mind its own business the world cries out that america isn't doing enough and when america is perceived as doing too much, the world cries out (often, america is willing to take a backseat if only others would step up, but that rarely happens). either way, they won't leave us alone.

and i didn't miss the point.

You still didn't answer which of the two is better.

Investing in America would be better. Sometimes I'd like to see what would happen if we said fuсk the rest of the world and took care of ourselves. Of course that ain't gonna happen, we have a responsibility to other nations as we are the major player in global affairs. If we help, we're meddlesome, if we don't, we're selfish. We contribute more to worldwide disasters and relief than any other country. No matter what we do, it isn't enough. Norway, Sweden, Australia are great places to live, but they are very minor players in world affairs. No one looks to them for help or protection. They aren't capable or willing to provide it. They look out for themselves, but one day that may come back to bite them in the a$$. Time will tell.

Dude, you cannot be for real.

Who in their right mind prefers the average Joe in their country live in poverty while trillions are spent on military and protecting the world? You guys also fail to explain how logical it is to borrow hundreds of billions from the same country you are defending against.

The countries I named are not major players in world affairs, fact. I certainly would prefer to spend the money here and say fuсk you to the rest of the ungrateful aѕѕholes. And all of those great countries with the happy people would be crying for help in no time. We give and give and get sh!t on in return. Let the rest of the world protect themselves. If it comes down to every country for themselves, it's no contest. The USA will be the last country standing. And all you aѕѕholes know it.

Protect against who? The rest of the world has smartened up and realizes this is 2010. Everyone is trying to improve their country and their quality of life. It's also why everyone else is the winning awards, while cities in the US like Detroit look like Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, at 8:20 AM.

Hate to be the bearer of band news but excluding Israel, you will be hard pressed to find someone who want the US to protect anybody. Ironically, this is exactly the reason why the US is hated. In reality, the rest of the first world is trying to cure cancer, treat Aids, eradicate poverty etc.

Never said get rid of the military, far from it actually. But spending a good 16 times that of country in position two is just ridiculous. Especially when you have your own veterans that are homeless and without proper treatment for their injuries. I'd say check and mate..

I hope the day comes when you get to see what will happen when the US won't help anyone out. Are you really that naive to think that the world will live in peace and harmony? Remember, Australia is a tiny player in the world. They didn't even live up to their pledges for the tsunami relief. It's nice to think only of ourselves, isn't it? And then one day something happens. Who are you going to come crying to for help? It's always the US. And go do your research on Australian's and cancer treatment. It lags other first world countries.

Hey it's your money wasted not theirs. If America wants to (borrow) and waste it in on military, while the country remains rundown and has cities and infrastructure akin to a third world country, that is your choice.

I don't expect rational opinions from some on here that are indoctrinated and ethnocentric by nature. You couldn't even take care of your own people in Katrina yet you are throwing out the one days.

We take pretty good care of you, don't we? And of course, only your opinion is rational, right? I hear that UAE is a great place to live and the people are really happy there too. How about if I brag about that every chance I get? Would that make my opinion rational?

so absolutely no one lives in poverty in AUS? sure they do. given AUS doesn't have to support an army and air force in germany, UK, korea, japan and other places, what's the problem with AUS?

part of my point and you missed it is that no country's citizens are completely perfect - not even AUS citizens. what do you want the US gov't to do, dish out welfare so these poor folks can live like the rest of us? send those poor folks to school? what if they aren't perfect enough for school and thus a great job that earns well? what if they are living to their highest potential?

you seem to be saying that the US should deprive the military of its budget to build infrastructure that ISN'T needed in the south and midwest. if it is NEEDED, it would be there. that's my take.

a lot of what you are talking about (appearance) isn't the federal gov'ts responsibility. the locals need to take responsibility for the appearance of towns and cities. the feds send funds to the states, but what the states do with those funds are local decisions.

and even if the fed reduced the military budget, with a projected deficit from now until the end of time, i'm pretty sure, the feds wouldn't be sending anymore than necessary to beautify the south and midwest more than appropriate.

again, if anyone in the south and midwest wants more, they can move to it.

BY doesn't want to talk about this.

i admit AUS is a great place, but they are tiny players in world affairs so it should be a nice place. they use the technology the US and others develop very well, i admit that.

You don't know how to have a discussion. No actually, I work for my money and add value back to society. I obey the law, pay taxes and help out whenever I can.

Funny you use the UAE example, considering that is your line of reasoning.
