Hi there,

I am scheduled for my AOS (through marriage to a US citizen) interview on June 12.

I've seen some people mentioning being approved immediately and having their passport

stamped as temporary proof of their approval. Does this mean they would be able to

travel internationally with just that stamp?

I am hoping to visit my hometown in Canada by July 16th (my mother is getting married

and I really want to be there). I was unable to apply for AP at the same time as my AOS due

to the fact that I had unintentionally accumulated an overstay that might induce a ban (I

unfortunately didn't understand the system as well as I do now and didn't file soon enough...)

If everything goes well at the interview, how likely is it that they will stamp my passport

immediately? If they don't does the official card usually come within a month?

My case is being processed at the California Service Center and my interview will be in Las

Vegas (if that makes a difference)

Thanks in Advance :)

I think it's just random if you get approved right away or not. Depends how the IO does things.

Personally, I was approved less then 10 minutes of being in there and got a stamp. I got my approval notices a week later and my card 3 weeks later

Good Luck at your interview!

Not all get approved on the spot. Depends on your case and the documents you provided. Since you mentioned an overstay, the IO may tilt eitherways. Also, Its not necessary that you will hear from them within a months time even if they were to approve you. It could be a week or many months before they approve your case and then add another month if there is a card production delay. If you are not approved during the interview and receive the good news at a later date, you may schedule an infopass and get your passport stamped for traveling. And yes, once the passport is stamped, its just as good as having a green card and valid for one year. Good Luck.

I was approved on the spot but didn't get the stamp.

Guess I forgot to ask for it.

So if you do get approved on the spot, make sure to ask for the stamp, I don't think all the IOs will remember.

I was approved on the spot but didn't get any stamp. I guess if they approve you could ask for it and explain why you need it...

I noticed that this party of ttaryn's post was not addressed. I am wondering the same thing as ttaryn - can someone please reply? :)

I thought a K3 was multiple entry for 2 years? I may be way off, I apologize if so.

Anyway, it's my understanding that the stamp in the passport is the same as the GC so travel would be ok. I personally would be more comfortable with the actual GC but that's me. ;)

We were approved at interview but didn't get a stamp. Didn't need one anyway though.

If you get approved immediately you may or may not get a stamp. I didn't get one. In most cases you will get your GC within 2 weeks. Of course it is a possibility that you may not, but we are talking about what happens most of the time. I had problems with address and stuff and still got mine in less than 1 month after the interview. If you don't get approved immediately don't panic. You might just get approved the day after. So just wait and see.
