DS-230 Help Needed Please

We just received our letter from MTL requesting our DS-230 Part 1 form...

My questions is this: Who fills out part 1 and who fills out part 2?

When we filed our I-130 form in Calgary the lady that helped us told us that my husband (US citizen) would fill out part one and I (immigrant) would fill out part 2 to bring to my interview once it is set... But upon filling out the form online I noticed that the form automatically copies the info from part one into part two... Does this mean that I must fill out both parts? Or do we each need to fill out a form?

Any help offered would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!!

Kim

The intended immigrant (you in this case) would fill out the DS-230 (both parts). This is your application for immigrant visa - the USC does not need to complete one.

6/15/2009 Filed I-129F

12/15/2009 Interview (HCMC, VN)

1/16/2010 POE Detroit

3/31/2010 MARRIED !!!

11/20/2010 Filed I-485

12/23/2010 Biometrics (Buffalo, NY)

12/31/2010 I-485 Transfered to CSC

2/4/2011 Green Card received

1/7/2013 Mailed I-751 package

1/14/2013 I-751 NOA (VSC)

2/07/2013 Biometrics (Buffalo, NY)

YUP -- fill out both parts of the DS-230 - that's for the foreign spouse (NOT USC ) and don't sign Part II.

Did anyone send the supporting documents to the consulate with their DS-230 form?

We received our first letter and it is asking for the DS-230 parts one and two and the enclosed checklist, signed, indicating you have obtained the required documents...

So, from my understanding all they want is the checklist and I bring all the documents to my interview then? I was told at the Calgary consulate to send the supporting documents, including the I-864 form, along with the DS-230 form... But then again, was also told that only part two of the form is for the immigrant... Wouldn't it be nice if people who worked in the immigration field were familiar with the immigration process?..... ;-)

It's my understanding, for DCF'd I-130s -

that the 'original documents' referenced for the DS-230 must be submitted WITH the DS-230. So, if you are sending off the DS-230, you'll need the original documents (there's a list at http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html , but it is NVC-submittal specific - not the same process you are doing)

Then there's the I-864 set - I think is rare for VJ member's doing a DCF'd I-130 to Calgary, so it's a bit hard to say when / what should be submitted.

There's the concept of 'following the instructions', but I feel yer frustation - which instructions, whose instructions, etc?

If you can find some VJ members who did DCF'd I-130 to Montreal - I'd suggest following their prior paths - as that path should be mimic'd 100 percent to Calgary.

As an aside, have you had time to review -->> http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/621-dcf-canada-yes-virginia-you-can/ ???

Good Luck !

Send the DS-230 (both parts - but part II unsigned), AND the checklist ONLY. Bring all original documents to interview, including I-864.

Congrats! Sign the DS-230 Part 1 in Blue to ensure there is no misunderstanding you are submitting a copy vs. original. Good Luck!
