Hello everybody!

I have a question… which bank do you all use? And why do you use that specific bank? I work for a bank here in Sweden and to me it seems like all them American banks are expensive and also not very friendly to use. I don’t want to pay anything to use a bank and to have different accounts and internet banking etc.. the bank will earn money from my credit cards etc..( that I will be forced to use in order to build a credit)

What do you recommend?

There are many banks here in the US that don't have additional charges. My bank doesn't charge me for anything so you will need to do some research before you open a bank account. My mom has had Bank of America and Wells Fargo and they have all these weird fees for silly things that make me not trust them at all.

Personally I do not have an account at a "bank" and if I had to use one I would prefer to use a local bank rather than one of the "big" banks.

I belong to a local Credit Union. Back when I joined it was the credit union for the company my father worked for. Since then it has merged with a few other local credit unions and is a great and stable organization.

I love it, there are a half dozen branches throughout our area and the service is great. I have been a member for over 30 years now and I wouldn't have it any other way. They have great rates for loans and I have never had a problem getting one.

Don't know if it would be something that would work for you guys but may be an option in your area to look into.

They also have different types of accounts - I pay 2 dollars a month for a premium checking account but I could have chosen the free checking account.

When I see names like Citibank and Bank of America I run the other way! Even though I do have their credit cards I would not want to bank with them.

"Banking" with my credit union was always a personal experience since the day I started and even though they have grown tremendously it still is today. I place a high value on the personal experience and I have not been let down once yet - even today.

Me and my husband have Naugatucks Savings Bank (Only available in CT) and we don't have to pay anything for it. For credit card we have Capital One and my husband never had any trouble with them.

I got an account there too now, for myself. I got this visa stamp on my card so now I'm building up a credit now. Even though I'm not using a credit card.

My husband says you should try a local bank in your state. They're mostly better and give the best deals.

We bank with Wells Fargo and have never paid a cent

I like their online banking too.. makes it very easy to keep track of our multiple accounts (checking, couple savings, credit card and a mortgage)

I bank with US Bank and a local credit union. I don't get hit with too many fees with US Bank, but that's because I'm careful about how I use my account. I liked my credit union more (and in fact, presently earn 4% APR on my checking account there), but I currently split my time between two vastly different parts of the US (midwest / southwest) and I like having the option to have a bank account that has local branches in both locations.

I did a research and there's my list:

The most horrible:

1. Wachovia (thank God they got sold)

2. Bank of America

I forgot the amount of overdraft fees they charged me and troubles they caused me... They withhold your checks and deposits and then charge you overdraft fees. Even transfers between your own accounts are pending for 2-3 days! (Wachovia)

The Best:

1. Citibank

2. HSBC

3. Unknown banks (local credit union ones)

Citibank is good because you can withdraw money in other countries with no or very little fees, they post purchases on your account immediately and don't tell you that you have a bad money management if you overdraw; they just refund your overdraft fee if so happens. I just heard they are not so good on credit cards.

HSBC is number one world rated bank in customer service. Nice and friendly.

Go with Credit Union . They are more reasonable and with work with you .... do a google search Credit Union vs Bank. You would understand on your own. I have recently closed our joint account in Fifth third bank as because of their high fees and overnight changes in fees in our account which even their own staff cdnt explain or control. It was almost a drama. So anyway we moved to a credit union.
