Hello!

I am the USC (female), and I just married my Canadian love last week. I applied for my new social security card in my new married name earlier this week. I am going to be changing my driver's license, etc. and all of my other name-related items next week. I am working on the AOS packet right now, and I am wondering if I should use my new married name, or the name I have been using for the K-1 paperwork?

Does anyone have any experience with this as the woman who is the sponsor and changed her name?

Thanks!

It is your husband that does the majority of the forms for AOS, the only form your name goes onto in the Affidavit of Support. If your name is now your married name, then use that name, and include a photocopy of your marriage certificate showing the link between your old and new names.

It is actually me that has done all of the forms. He just signs them. I think I will use my married name and just include the wedding certificate.

Thanks!

What Astrid meant is they his forms for him to fill out (though if your husbands like mine he doesn't like paperwork so if he was the immigrant I'd be doing the same as you :P)

Yep. You are now married and your "new" name is your legal name. The only difference if it was YOU that was the immigrant (like me) is in any place it says "former names" I have to make sure I write my maiden name in. Because your husband is the immigrant and didn't change his name your forms are fine.

Also, don't worry that any of your financial documents (like your tax returns etc) are in your maiden name (some people do so I thought i'd beat this qn) because your marriage certificate serves as your proof of name change for those.
