We are at the stage of submitting to Montreal the package prior to the interview. The cover letter with NOA2 states that a checklist is all that is required and not the items literally on the checklist. However, form DS156K states that all the items must accompany the form! Which one is it!!??

DS-156K is a form that every consulate uses

The checklist is the form that ONLY Montreal uses and was designed by Montreal for Montreal for exactly how they do the visa...

I think you should now know which instructions to follow

moving to consulate forum

YMMV

So you are saying that all the items listed on DS156K must be sent with packet3 back to Montreal?

no, i am saying follow the instructions for the checklist because that is how montreal wants it and when. MTL probably wants all DS application documents day of interview

Maybe best to post in the Canada regional forum for help. There are differences between consulates on when and what to send.

For example - in Vietnam for packet three you just send the DS-230 Part 1 and a DS-2001, then the DS-156 and DS-156k are hand carried the day of the interview.

I have seen other consulates that want these all sent in prior to the interview and some also want other forms and a checklist.

Typically all the other documents and proofs are hand carried to the interview. As the requirements vary on when and what to send you will need to read very carefully the instructions and be best to post consulate specific questions in the regional forum.

I know it can be very confusing.
