My fiance is moving in with me May 15. He doesn't have a lot to move... a suitcase, two carry on bags, and a box. He wants to mail the (large-ish) box to me using Canada Post. Is there any way to avoid fees on my end? I've found a bunch of answers to this, and they seem conflicting.

Thank you!

Which fees do you think you'll have to pay? He's basically mailing a package to someone....what will be in it? He might eb etter off with UPS or Fedex honestly (just for better quality mailing)

I mail tons of stuff back to my nieces...clothes, movies etc... no one pays a fee except the one I pay to mail the package

i used canda post to send a few heavy boxes. just paid the shipping. wrote perosnal used effects on it with a tiny description ie: books cd's etc. very very expensive and it took well over 2 weeks to go from ontario to chicago. it was like 100 a box..ouch. they delivered it and there were no fees to pay. there is not duty on personal used effects. but your stuff will be opened and retaped

I mailed 4 boxes...about 50 lbs each, (cost about $70 each)and put gift or gift returned to sender with a description of what's in the box. Everything arrived [semi] safely. One box was crunched a little in the corner, but nothing damaged.

I'm sure mailing the box will be ok.

Yea, expect around $100+ a box and be sure to indicate the contents as personal/used effects.

Ive sent stuff through UPS that way, it only took about a week (or less) and there were no fees at the destination.

Just be sure to indicate what it is. If he goes to a UPS store or Mailboxes etc. sometimes the person at the counter can help with filling the form properly.
