My wife wants to get a drivers license in Oregon. She has all the ID that any person would have that comes here on a fiancee visa. It is still not the right kind of ID. She can not even get a Oregon ID card. She had a passport and her old drivers license from Ecuador. We have the Notice OF ACTION for I-767c and I485c but NOPE not good enough. I want to put her on my checking account but...She needs ID GRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! Does anyone have any ideas?????

Most of the time they (banks) need a SSN. Did you get the SSN as per the guides before her I-94 expired?

As for drivers license, most states require the GC in order to issue a licence. They will sometimes issue a permit while the I-94 is still valid if you show the passport and K1 visa, but only valid until the I-94 expires. So, if your wife doesn't have a valid I-94 (which from her timeline it should be expired) or she doesn't have her GC, then she can't get her drivers licence until she does.

If she doesn't have a SSN then she will most likely be unable to get a bank account or be added to a bank account or health plan either. Some banks don't require a SSN but I know Wells Fargo does (who are my bank).

Sorry.

Zee21 provided good information. In order to get an Oregon ID she also needs to provide proof that she actually lives in Oregon-I am not sure if a Green Card is enough. If you move to another state you cannot simply waltz into the dmv and request a new driver's license. You usually have to present proof that you are living in the state, like a water bill. Simply having a passport, birth certificate, etc. in no way shows that she is a resident of the state of Oregon, hence why they will not give her the ID. The forms that you have are not accepted proof that she is a resident, according to the link I am pasting.

here is a link with what she needs according to Oregon. To be honest I am not sure if she will be eligible to get a driver's license based on her Ecuadorian license, but she should be able to drive on her Ecuadorian license for a short period of time, depending on treaties that Ecuador has signed. I would explore this link that provides information on what is needed or call the Oregon DMV.

Sorry I didn't see the part about the checking account. She should have a social security card and with that I don't see why she should not be able to be put on your checking account. I was at one point hoping to get my wife on a checking account just for the proof of relationship factor, even though she had never been in the United States. After calling several banks, a couple of the bigger ones even told me that she did not even need a social security card as long as I was on the account, but did have to be present in person at the bank in order to sign papers. If your bank is giving you problems even with a social security number, it might be time to look for a new bank. I am not really sure how the lack of a state ID plays into the situation, but it shouldn't be hard to get a state ID if you follow the correct steps.

Hi!

Here in Miami I was asked for the Employment Authorization Card, along with my SS card, 3 bills proving I live with my husband, my passport with the I-94 still valid and my old license from Ecuador. I paid like 250 in Ecuador for the International Driver's License and NEVER USED IT!!!! It simply was no good here.

Just recently I was able to be included in my husband's accounts in the bank, when I finally got my driver's license.

So, patience my friends... this is how it goes.

Hope I was helpful.

in New Jersey is the same. You have to have SScard in the current name, and Gc for the permit.

In Oregon, you have to have passport, EAD, and social security card to get ID/driver's license. If you look on the DMV website, they have a pretty clear list of documents that are acceptable. We were hoping to get one prior to the EAD, but that was all they would take for proof of legal status besides the green card itself.

AOS (from tourist w/overstay)

1/26/10 - NOA

5/04/10 - interview appt - approved

ROC

2/06/12 - NOA date

7/31/12 - card production ordered

N-400

2/08/13 - NOA date

3/05/13 - biometrics appt

6/18/13 - interview - passed!

7/18/13 - oath ceremony

I don't think you need the green card for an ID.

I lost my wallet a while back, including ID, green card, and so on. Only thing I had left was my passport, which for some bizarre reason they the Oregon DMV didn't accept. I also had the EAD card which I applied for when I applied for the green card, and surprisingly, they did accept that! The good thing is, your EAD card usually arrives in the mail a month before your GC. I now have an incorrect middle initial on my DL which is also on my EAD, but not on my GC or passport ...

In Washington I got a DL on a student visa. I did have a SSN.
