For starters I am trying to decide if I am using the latest version or even a correct version of the Form I-864. I am using Rev 01/12/06 and Expires 09/30/06.

Now a question about Part 3. Do I just leave that blank if I am the only sponsor, and there is no one else in addition to the principal immigrant?

The guidelines for preparing Form I-864 say to staple pages 1 to 6 together. I have 8 pages, so this mean 7 and 8 stay loose?

When the pages are stapled together, is there a preferred placement of the staples?

In James's NVC Shortcuts it says to, "Write your case number in the upper right-hand corner of each page." Does this mean each page of the Form I-864 and tax return as well?

Thanks

Are you talking about the I-864 that the NVC sent you? I don't remember what was on part 3. Can you write it? I can tell you tomorrow about the part 3 from my photocopy that I will be able to see tomorrow. Leaving blank is not a good idea, rather, simply writing "N/A" or "NONE" can be a good answer. But I need to know what is part 3 before I can answer it.

Page 1-6 are the I-864 form, so you staple them together. I think, pages 7-8 is I-864A. If you don't need I-864, you don't send it.

Yes, write the case number on each page of I-864, tax return, plus anything that you will be sending.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Here's a link to the Form I-864 I am using.

I have not yet received the form from the NVC just yet. I am following James's shortcuts and trying to prepare it ahead of time.

And where exactly do they prefer we put these staples?

thanks

I did not send this one though I prepared one. I have sent what NVC mailed me. Can you tell me the page number where it talks about the staples?

If you are only sponsoring one person, then you click on the box on number 8, "I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in part 2, then click on "YES" box subsequently on number 8. Write "NONE" for number 9. Do not leave any space blank.

Here is what I have been reading about preparing the I-864, staples and 6 pages (I still have 8 pages). Nowhere but in James's Shortcuts do I see where it says to put your case number on each page, but it couldn't hurt I suppose, and apparently they work well.

Even though I'm itching to send this thing out as soon as the NVC is ready to accept it, I may just wait and see what form and directions they send me from the NVC.

I think it used to be 6 pages, am they didn't change the instructions for that. Staple together all pages on the left upper corner. Remember to put your case number on ALL pages.

The form is fine, as it is valid till 9/30/2006.

I see, now it is clear to me. The DOS instructions refer to the old I-864 which has total 6 pages. So they are asking to staple them together. Definitely, DOS instructions has not updated for the new I-864.

The new I-864 has total 8 pages, so if you use this one, you have to staple all pages, 1-8. Page number 7, you print your full name and on page number 8, you sign and date it. So page 7 and 8 are the part of the new I-864.

I decided to send the old one anyway. You don't need to notarize the old one, just leave the notarization area blank and you only need to send the most recent year's tax return, though you can send the last 3 years' return, if you want. I attached a cover letter where I mentioned what items are attached and I alsmo metioned that the I-864 was not notarized per instructions.

Yes, write down the case number on the the top right hand corner of each pages of all documents. You will see the NVC instruction about writing the case number when you get the I-864 packet.
