i-485 AOS for Canadian on F-1

Hello all, my Canadian wife and I are starting our AOS process and any help from experienced Canadians would really help!

I'm having a hard time completing form I-485

it asks "consulate where visa was issued" She is here on an F-1 student visa, we have an I-20 isued by her school and an I-94 departure record confirming her F-1 status but she never had to get an actual visa from a consulate because Canadians are visa exempt.

1)So my first question is what is the appropriate response to "consulate where visa was issued" in our case?

Her I-94 was issued at the border point of entry.

2)What is the date visa was issued? is this the date on her first I-20? or most recent I-20? or her original date of entry and issuance of I-94(same date)?

Has anyone else been through this as a student from Canada?

The I-485 is a generic form and not Canadian specific. Obviously most countries do require a student visa to enter into the US as a student; not so for Canadians. I would put N/A for the consulate question since there is no visa and certainly not one issued at a consulate - I assume you will attach a copy of the I-20 and the I-94 to your I-485 packet so they'll figure it out. As for the issuance date, I'd put the issue date of the original I-94 that was stamped with the F-1 stamp.

Attach a full explanation on a separate sheet of paper, and refer to it on the form in the field asking for the visa number. Put all of the dates associated with the F-1 status in the explanation. That should get you the best chance of avoiding an RFE, since they'll have a full history.
