In any case, I think you're reading too much into my post. I never said that they were or should be taken seriously, only that the point of view they espouse could be interpreted to be offensive - if you're in the mood to be offended.

I'm just pointing out the difference between movies which in which the fictional world is Realist (the new Rambo movie for instance) and movies in which the fictional world is Post-Modern (more or less all of Quentin Tarantino's movies) and which have a formalism that tells you "this is theatre".

Who was offended by the Rambo movies besides the critics? You? The Vietnamese or the Soviets?

Unfortunately, Mr. Heston, most moviegoers can't draw the distinctions you're making. They see it as entertainment and some like yourself are occasionally offended (or me) are by some aspect of a movie. I wrote to one fool in college who penned an article praising V for Vendetta and saying it should inspire people to revolt against government. It wasn't a realistic movie but he took it the wrong way. I asked him how he was any different from Tim McVeigh or what was to stop anyone from claiming all their crimes were justified as political actions of some sort. Didn't get a response.

Post-modern? Never really understood that term. When did the post-modern period begin anyway?

A fine example of Pikes hypocritical double standards. I could seriously post for the guy.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

What does it matter who was offended or not?

My point is simply this:

1) There are subtexts in all movies and all works of fiction. In movies a lot of those subtexts are political.

2) That there is a big difference between Realism and Post-modernism and that the politician railing against "Machete" is ignorant of that, which makes his opinions on the subject similarly ignorant.

If I read the OP correctly, it isn't a political subtext in question here. It's that the trailer outright states ...

But before the trailer even begins, the battle-scarred title character stares out from the screen as he tells viewers that what's about to unfold — an immigration-laced slasher grindhouse flick — is about the current border battle in Arizona.

That's a wee bit more blatant than a subtext. And yes, I have a problem with it.

If this article describes this movie accurately, I have a big problem with it. In fact, I would prefer to see all major movie theaters and all major rental companies refuse to carry it.

but but that would be racist! :hehe:
