Hi,

I'm working on the i-485 for my wife who is Canadian and came here as a student.

On part 3. section A. it asks for "non immigrant visa number" is this the i-94 number, is it the sevis number??

Also consulate where visa was issued? date of issue? The only thing we have is her departure card and she never had to apply through a consulate to our knowledge.

Someone told us to put "Visa exempt-CANADA" Can this possibly be right!?

Any advice from other Canadians on F-1 who have filled this form appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Somewhere the F-1 was issued... look in the passport on the visa itself.

If a Canadian enters as a tourist (visa free) then the visa exempt statement is proper but as you indicate F-1 then it would not be

It's the red number on her F-1 visa, which should be in her passport.

Like payxibka says and most of Canadian visitors do, I entered the U.S. as a visitor to my girlfriend, so I put down 'Canadian Visitor.' Literally. I had no problem. I was told to put it that way by someone on VJ. When I got the NOA, I was given an A#.

It's the red number on her F-1 visa, which should be in her passport.

Like Spoom says, if your spouse came to the U.S. as a F-1 Visa student, her passport must have a stamp showing that which customs location she entered through, what date, and specifically says F-1. I went to college here in the U.S. a long time ago, and my old old passport is marred with these red stamps.

Cheers.

Yes! I am approved!!! :)

It took only two (2) months to be approved. Hooray!
