$10 is peanuts. I paid $40 to park in Sydney a few weeks back. Interestingly enough the parking at Santa Monica pier we stopped at was relatively cheap. A buck an hour.

Everything in Australia is more expensive, therefore Australia rocks!

The mind boggles.

The difference in the states, if the urban effect that took place in many cities... Poorest of neighborhoods were right by downtown areas, not the nicest of areas, etc... People moved out of the city and into the suburbs or even further out.

Smart cities are starting to change that and force the poor out of the downtown areas and into other parts.

Luckily in Fort Worth this was never truly an issue other than one housing project that was right by the northwest side of downtown and was right across the street from the police and sheriff's department main stations. - As I said though, they got rid of it still and Radio Shack built a new HQ.

My point though is that much like infrastructure and high speed transportation, the United States is severely behind everyone else. Cities all over the first world are thriving and actually quite pleasant to stroll in after work or during the evening to have a drink or dinner.

Scandal on here was talking about Chicago not too long ago but come on. Compared to other international cities, it's a dump. Not to mention crime-ridden.

It's just weird to me that every other industrialized country has one model, whereas with the exception of NYC, the US has the opposite. Suburbs are nice for families but boring for young professionals. I really miss the lifestyle I had in Melbourne or Sydney.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Actually I meant $10 is cheap. Dude come on, we have been down this road many times before. How many people from the first world aspire to come to the US anymore? Whereas, how many of this caliber are migrating to AUS or Canada daily? I have tried going beyond opinion and illustrating this uber success using international studies and you guys still deny it. Neither Photos nor google streetviews seems to work either.

You are behind, that's what it comes down to. New Jersey style downtowns are non-existent in AUS. End of story. They don't have run-down 100 year old subway stations like NYC. They don't have roads that look like they are in Sudan. Denying it or hating me for telling the truth does nothing to change it, only things like this guy is doing will change this unfortunate reality.

Unfortunately for America and Americans, a fixation with freedom, rights, amnesty and missiles don't improve one's quality of life.

And for all of Australia's success, we could colonize the nation faster than Iraq. :P

Big cities are often overcrowded and annoying though too.

I love suburbia, because you have everything (at least here). Good Restaurants, bars, clubs, entertainment, movies, etc.. and usually all within a relatively close area and you're not dealing with overcrowded street/sidewalks.

The only reason why I still like Downtown Fort Worth, is because there is space and it's not overcrowded. Not everyone feels the need to go downtown, because the areas right outside are thriving as well, so there's plenty to do all around and not everyone has to be congested. It works...

Very few, you're right. By the way, could that be the reason so many of our legal immigrants are from south of the border and Asia? Not because the Federal government discriminates against white people but because white people have it good where they are?

Give Australia a few decades of growth and get back to me then. It's a young, barely populated country.

Good restaurants in the burbs? Very few. They're mostly in denser areas.

Unless you think Crapplebee's is a "good restaurant".

They are also a nation whose military spending is in line with what my neighbor spends on slurpees at 7-11

What is?

Is there actually an idea behind your Invective?

Refer to post 22 for answers. Funny how my old man came to Aus with $10 and the clothes on his back yet built an empire. To this day has kept a well maintained house and always had time to take care of it and our surrounding area, even after working double shifts in a factory. As has every other immigrant in their neighborhood, thus the $1.2 mill and up price tag on their once working class homes.

Better watch out, the Bangladeshis are working on a Navy, they just acquired their first canoe. Once they guy a GPS for that canoe, Australia is in danger!

I doubt it. We have enough actual resources to build a sub and aircraft carrier daily. Plus considering pretty-much everyone on the planet hates the US, while the world actually likes us, you'd have to take on everyone.

I think Australia is in more danger of becoming the southern most province of India

You live in a different scenario thatn I do here. Fine dining is all over here, not just in the denser areas. You'll find more stacked together downtown, but every area has a few as well.

That's the key, they don't want to be over populated and have their quality of life fall, as has happened in the US. It's nice to have an older distant cousin that you can learn from their mistakes.

Though, the US would never let you do it.
