how detailed does the border declaration form need to be at POE?

When you crossed the border with all your stuff, how detailed was your customs form? Did you inventory every single box and item? Or was it more general such as 1 box of clothes, 2 boxes kitchenware, 1 box office supplies? Just curious what others did.

thanks!

I had a detailed list with box numbers and rough contents....did it in excel - 2 or 3 columns, no biggie. I edited the list as I packed. I also noted my serial numbers for electronics and and receipts from things bought in the last year before I moved (I had to buy a new TV and a new PC that year because both died) so I figured better to be safe then sorry.

In total besides funriture...I must have had about 75 relatively large boxes :)

And of course they didn't even look at it...although I offered

I didn't write down serial number for electronics, just had a basic list with the corresponding numbers taped to each item. Don't know how much stuff you have but it's really handy for unpacking if nothing else :hehe:

I had no choice because we shipped out stuff - so the form was a requirement.

But I probably would have done one anyway.

On the flip side, when you move to Canada, they actually DO look at it and you need 2 copies and you have to put values annnd they stamp it and everything lol

I had handwritten lists of contents for each box. They didn't even look in the U-haul though.

I think I'm the only person who didn't make a list.

They never asked me for one either... dumb luck I guess.

I didn't either.

And they never checked the truck/trailer.

Hm, interesting question, since I'm working on packing my fiance up at the moment, lol... well, not completely, but working on figuring out what's going where and such.

Anyone POE at Sarnia/Port Huron that can give advice? :D

I have seen several Port Huron POE reviews. Not exactly sure where they are currently, but if you do a search for Port Huron, I think you will get them to come up. My fiance' is going through there around the first of July. YEAH! He called yesterday to ask questions about importing his car and using his NEXUS card when he goes through. I will have to get teh phone number he used to talk to a human there. I will post that later.

I brought my dog and two cats and wasn't asked a thing about any of them. I brought a couple of loads of belongings across; only once was asked what I was bringing in but even then the agent was not even interested in my list.

I went through there in January, my POE experiance is in my timeline but for a basic sum up: Easy. I did a basic list like everyone else here. Serial numbers for electronics and then a bunch of boxes with basic ideas what was inside (CD's, Movies, books etc). They didn't even look at my list. When you go through the POE, you will talk to a person in the booth first, just tell them you are activating a K1 visa. If they are confused don't worry, not all of them have experiance with them. They will ask you to pull off to the left to the building. Park where the person on the lot tells you to and leave your car unlocked. They didn't inspect my stuff even though they did this. You then go inside, wait to be called to the counter and pretty much just stand there while they type in stuff and then take finger prints and a picture, make sure they staple the I-94 in his passport and that they take the package (they stapled mine but the guy working on it got confused on the package and thought I had to send it in to USCIS ) after that you are free to go! WOOHOO!

Oh that's too bad, cats don't need anything and dogs just need a current rabies vaccination.
