I found the solution..... get Gmail.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Kafkaesque cloud outage traps Microsoft Hotmailers

You are offline and that is why you are lost

By Gavin Clarke in San Francisco

Microsoft has apologized for a cloud outage that saw its customer support services evaporate.

The Windows Live Solutions Center was offline for several hours on Tuesday thanks to what Microsoft called a "temporary server issue" that "intermittently prevented some consumers from accessing content on the site."

Which was a really problem for Hotmail users who'd turned to Windows Live Solutions Center to report the problem.

Users had been told their Hotmail accounts were undergoing "maintenance" estimated to last an hour, but that it had been days since they'd been able to access their emails.

One reader contacted The Reg to say he'd got the following error message:

Server Error: 5102 Server Response: Xfs request 'GetAccountData' failed. Response code: 'ResourceMarkedDown', server response: '721 0' Server: 'http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx' Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x8DE20003

Those who hit the Windows Live Solutions Center were greeted with this:

Windows Live Solution Center is currently experiencing technical difficulties. You may receive an error such as "Page Cannot be Displayed" when attempting to view the site. We are aware of the issue and are working with our Operations team to resolve the problem.

Microsoft was unable say what caused the problem with Hotmail. It said Windows Live Solutions Center was up and running again by 3:00pm Pacific time on Tuesday. A spokesperson told The Reg Wednesday there were no known Windows Live issues yesterday or today.

So, problem solved. Or not. ®

Yea, seriously. I lump hotmail into the same category as AOL. Yahoo has made an attempt to improve their email web interface, but I wasn't impressed when I checked it out a little while back. Gmail is excellent. I wish my office would let me forward my email to my Gmail account so I don't have to suffer with Outlook - the worst email client on earth.

In my case, I think I had go to Tools, then Internet Options and delete my browsing history. Took me forever to find someone who could help me out. Hotmail solution center of whatever they call it was a mess and not very helpful.

As a long time user of BOTH hotmail and Gmail, I have to agree: use Gmail. I have been trying to migrate everything to my Gmail account for some time, but ... eh, I signed up for too much.

Why Gmail:

Archive (no need to delete)

Colored labels

Replys thread, instead of millions of separate emails

Yeah, go Gmail!

I had some problems of spam emails sent to many of my contacts. When I asked a store (which deals in used/rebuilt computers and also services existing ones) across the street, they stated they would need to back-up important data and "blow" the hard drive--as it was XP, they would need the recovery-CD to do so. I solved it by buying an external HD, backing my data to it and then changing the password on my hotmail to a "strong" one (this would have been necessary as well). This type of spam comes when Outlook (or Outlook Express) is configured to read emails (for those who never configure these to read hotmail no such problem).

I do have a Gmail account (tied to VJ for emails) accessed "once in blue-moon".

My problem was page loading, which resulted in an error as described in post 6. The problem has been resolved.

I have g-mail also, but I keep the hotmail account since most people I know send e-mail there.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
