I just got my first job!

Since I got here three years ago I've been busy caring for some of my husband's relatives. I have just been offered my first paid job here and am unsure of what paperwork the employer and I have to file since I am not a citizen. I have a 10 year green card and have my social security card. Does anyone know if there is any paperwork for me that is different from that used when employing a citizen.

My new employer owns a very small business and has never employed anyone with a green card before. He has no HR backup at all.

I can hardly believe my luck that I've been offered a job in my field and with the chance of more training to get some American certifications. I just don't want anything to go wrong and don't want him to decide it's too complicated to hire me. I am supposed to start first thing Monday morning.

Review the I-9 form - you have all documents needed for that.

Then there is the W-4 form to fill out.

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Your GC is all you need. It's a "Column A" item on the I-9 form.

Thank you Joyce, I've looked over the I-9 and can explain to my new employer on Monday morning.

All I have to do now is learn how to do a job I've never done before and try to justify his hiring me.

I'm sure it will be a piece of cake. :)
