So, I have my interview on Monday.

My flight from NYC leaves Sunday (the day before).

I'm flying to Ireland (where my interview is).

As most of you are aware there are some problems with the volcanic ash at the moment and might be so on Sunday as well.

What happens if I fail to appear for my interview?

Is there any way to reschedule?

Should I inform them ahead of time in case I know I won't be able to make it?

Just trying to be proactive in case I get unlucky.

Thanks!

email the embassy IV unit about this.

Worst case scenario - you take the appointment letter to the USEM AFTER the appointment date, and beg at the door to be let in, showing the boarding passes and explaining was 'Act of God'.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Definitely email the Embassy now to warn them about the possibility. With Passport Visa stamps showing you in the US until Sunday or later I am sure they will consider rescheduling you a new appointment.

They might question your lack of judgment trying to fly in the morning of the Interview.

Other options would include trying to get to Ireland NOW!!! Get a flight to Madrid or Paris. Take the Chunnel to London. Make your way to Ireland by Ferry.

I agree with Rob.

If it were me at the embassy and I received your e-mail, I would wonder why you didn't make it here sooner or by a different route. Yes, it might be an "Act of God," but this "Act" didn't happen just yesterday. You've known for some time now that it's been causing travel problems. To be honest, I'd view it as irresponsible. If immigrating to the US is so important, you should be trying harder than just asking to reschedule. Just another perspective. Then again, it's probably good I am not a CO.

Is there absolutely no way you can get to Ireland sooner or by a different route, such as the one Rob suggested?

As someone who also had an "act of god" interrupt their scheduled visa interview -- the flooding in Rio last month shut down the airport that my fiancé was flying into the day before the interview and we were unable to find an alternative method that would get him to the interview in time (not to mention not having the time to do the medical), and we had to cancel the day before the interview. You are almost certainly going to be rescheduled, and probably not immediately -- we had to wait nearly a month for our rescheduled interview, and they put a rush on our rescheduling because the petition was to expire next week.

So, yeah. Just email them and tell them you need to reschedule. Figure out a way there that will have the least amount of flying (trains, ferries, and buses), ask for 1-2 months from now (when the ash really should have significantly gotten better) or see if there's any way the interview can be transferred to where you currently are.

I'm hoping for the best here.

Still to me, though, a flood the day before an interview is a lot different than an ash cloud that's been going on for weeks. Just saying...

And! Lots of luck! You've made it this far; you're going to be able to make it out alive and with your sanity.
