Waiting for our I-130 approval and wanting to get things ready for NVC EP. Having a difficult time explaining to my wife about the need and the "how & where to get" for the following:

1. Original/certified copy of beneficiary’s birth certificate

2. Original/certified copy of beneficiary’s and petitioner’s marriage certificate(she already has the certificate, need the "certified" part)

3. Original police certificate(s) of the beneficiary

Anyone have this in "plain chinese" that I could send to her? Been trying various translations of information I have found on VJ and she is getting frustrated. I must not be saying the right thing. Who knew?!

Thanks for your help!

Hey Greg

sorry, I can't speak Chinese.

I am curious though: how do you guys communicate? Sounds like her English isn't the best and your Chinese isn't either.

Just curious.

Just curious.

I can speak Chinese pretty well; enough to get me in trouble, just not out of it!

It's these technical issues that get in the way sometimes. We have to rely on text messaging and online translators. Other than that, she understands most of what I say to her and I figure out what she is saying to me. After three years, we know what the other person is saying.

Hey Greg - ya - there's a topic in the China forum about it - I'll post the link in a moment.

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/228853-notarial-birth-certificate/

Read ALL of that, including the links given.

There's some chinese in there, should clear up much.

basically, she's gonna get 'white books' made. This is a 'Notarial Translation Document', GUZ IV knows all about them. INSIDE, is a certified copy of the original document, plus an english translation, plus a notarial statement about the translator. Once those are done - take to copy shop, scan them, email to you. (fastest and easiest way, unless she has scanner and puter at home). I strongly suggest she wait on getting the white books, until the NOA-2 date, but she can knock around a bit in her district, find the right office, prior.

Thanks much, Darnell! Somehow I knew you would come to the rescue!

I like your idea about waiting until NOA-2. There is a chance that I will be in China when that happens. Then we can figure this out together. I will still give her the homework of scoping out the right office before I arrive. I think we were there (or close to it) when we were checking out where to get married.

Thank you again!

one word of caution - if she is 'migrant worker' - work in different province than what is listed in her hukuo book - she will have to go home to her 'hukuo' province - to that district, actually, and get the white books there, as well as the originals.

If travelling for her is a problem - and IF there are other family members listed in her hukuo book - a family member, 'back home', can get them for her - she doesn't need to travel.

if she works in the same province where her hukuo is registered, of course is no 'travelling' issue, getting them is straightforward.

Thanks for the caution. It's all good. She is living at home right now and checked out where the notarial office is the other day. Just waiting for the NOA2.

She was a "migrant worker" for a few years. From everything I have read, she only needs to apply for the police certificate in her hokuo and that will cover all of China. Correct?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Darnell,

I read here that you advised him to have his wife scan and email to him the original/certified copies of the BC, Police cert and Marriage cert for him to send in with the DS-230 pkg. But doesn't he have to send the ACTUAL original/certified copies? I'm confused here...please clarify...thanks.

oh - you can review YOUR I-864 stuff, prior to the jump, that's always useful (you have some time to order the tax transcripts, thankfully -
