Georgia is one of those states as well. We tried to take advantage of it last year but it was so restrictive that in most cases the tax free status didn't apply to anything we needed or wanted to buy - or there were exemptions, such as with computer stuff, that basically made it useless unless you are buying an introductory type of student computer - extra software didn't qualify; computer components didn't qualify, memory didn't qualify, etc. It is great for students returning to school but not necessarily so hot for the rest of us.

I know it is supposed to be for student school supplies - but why do students need fluourescent tubes then? Those are tax free; lightbulbs aren't.

 I don't have a clue... I haven't bought any... tonight we bought clothes (a lot :( ), paper, pencils, notebooks, crayons (I have little ones :luv: ) and soda... had to pay tax on the soda :P

Maybe teachers need to buy them for their classes?

or maye you could wish you lived in Oregon, where it's tax-free shopping day EVERYDAY!

Seriously, I went there and bought something, and when they rang it up, they asked for exactly the amount the item was displayed for. I did a double-take, said "what about the tax?" and they laghed at the silly non-oregonian and explained there's no sales tax there. I thought "my fiance would LOVE it here!" becuase he hates that what the items are displayed as isn't what you actually pay at the register over here.

Some parts of NC are 6.5% I believe... be glad you're not there

Most of Georgia is 7%...8% in some places. *sigh* Thank the gods for tax free weekend! Our list was very long for school supplies and our daughter is only in Grade 2. The list included pencils (NOT Rose Art brand), Fiskars type scissors, crayons, colour pencils, markers, dry erase markers, white school glue, glue sticks, loose leaf wide rule paper, spiral bound notebook (for journaling), and special paper that we can only get at the school store, tissue, hand sanitizer, hand soap, and Tylenol. Hope I didn't miss anything.

Oh darn, we forgot the Clorox clean up wipes. *sigh*
