Well, this posting is perfect timing for a perfectly bolloxed day. My American fiancée drives (well, drove) an absolutely horrid Nissan Sentra, a late 90s model. Anyway, the paint is ruined, the boot sticks half the time when you use the remote, the aircon is a joke, and the interior is faded. Mechanically it seems fine, but quite frankly the thought of starting a new life with this car as our main mode of transportation horrifies me. 'Welcome to America dear, your death chariot awaits!'

When the husband moved here, my car was an '89 Sentra--no air bags, even. ;)

We drive a 15 year old car. Runs quite nicely even if it does look embarrassing.

I divorced an individual once who thought cars were a bigger deal than me. But as they say in America, that's just how I roll. ;)

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

Well, you and I are teh fanceh, Julie. Our first car here was a 1987 Camaro, with a skull and crossbones sticker on the hood where the Camaro badge should have been. No airbags to speak of!

I am showing this thread to my fascist husband and asking why he isn't giving ME money for a new Mercedes or Porsche. mad.gif

My main car is a 1995 Taurus that I lovelovelove. And my fun car is a black '93 Mustang convertible, vroom vroom. I am not a huge fan of the modern car, as you might be able to tell. Uncle Joe, my husband, has a 1991 Accord and a 1971 Jaguar XJ6 which appears to be there only to leak transmission fluid all over the floor.

Sweet! Air bags are for wimps!

Easy for you to laugh -- you aren't married to Tom Tancredo stuck in a British body.

Well you could always trade him in for Gordon Brown.

I have a feeling Gordon will be free for such an appointment come this Friday. ;)

I actually used to have a bit of a schoolgirl crush on Gordon Brown -- something about his brooding demeanour, the slightly shambolic appearance, the lustrous hair... I got over it by 1999. Also, every time I hear his name, I sing it along in my head to the Stranglers song "Golden Brown."

Well I'm speechless, and even more livid. A few hundred dollars isn't even a drop in the bucket compared to what she--I--overpaid for a car that she's too afraid to even drive, and what we're going to lose on it when we trade it for something sensible. I can see why she lied about it, I'll have to talk more about this to her tomorrow. Thank you for the information, elmcitymaven.

Anyway...humming while eating. That's a new one on me.

Piping up here as the fiancee who bought the Boxster. It's not completely as he says it -- I'm not afraid to drive the car, but I think Julian is afraid of ME driving the car and doing damage to myself, the car and stationary objects. And pedestrians. Maybe Vanessa&Tony's right, that he wants me in a safer car. But it is really cute and I really hope we don't trade it in.

I guess I'll hear more about it later tonight when he calls me... :(

This thread is too much! It's kind of nice to get these little (and sometimes big) things off our chests!!

Fortunately, I don't have any major gripes about my fiance, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what marriage brings :D I'm sure we'll both have our share of complaints!

I have never moved into a committed relationship so fast, but it seems the British can become committed much easier than Americans. Maybe less games or higher expectations? I kept saying things like, "ok, yeah, we kind of are seeing each other BUT you can see whoever you want. I'm not going to demand you be with just me this soon" and he was just SHOCKED that I wasn't wanting to be committed from the beginning.

Oh yeah, I tend to agree on this point! When my UK fiance and I first met in person, we had already been speaking for a year online and considered ourselves a couple and all of that, but I was still shocked to be kissed within less than an hour of ever laying my eyes on him in person :P He just went right in for it! And one of our first-ever phone conversations involved him asking me if I would marry him if we were older. Of course I said yes and thought it was sweet, but now I'm looking back and thinking HOLY COW! Good thing it worked out!!

Our naturalization timeline
1/12/2015 - Application sent to Phoenix service center by USPS priority mail

3/28/2015 - Hard copy interview notice received

4/29/2015 - Interview at Chicago field office - Approved!!!

Thank you, VisaJourney!!!!!

The question is, what happened to the Sentra? :star:
