I had on a 'family friendly' pop radio station, that always bleeps all the bad words out, etc. when my 5 year olds started singing in the car. It was a song by Rihanna.

Naturally, I was like "awww how cute," until I started listening to the words to the song and OMG is all I have to say.

Has this happened to any other parents?

In 5-10 years you won't even understand what all the fuss was about. There was a time when the Rolling Stones' Brown Sugar was deemed too sexual for young kids. Does anybody care that they bleep out Alanis Morrisette? Even Louie Louie got in trouble for it's lyrics.

When Trooper came out with the song Raise a Little Hell, Randy Bachman wanted to change it to Raise a Little Howl.

 I know, but there's something just a little disturbing about my 5 year old boys singing "hey rude boy can you get it up"

Almost as disturbing as being able to sing all the songs from "The Sound of Music", really

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

Being in the car is one of the few times my kids are exposed to radio and I usually listen to public radio, instrumental music or oldies. I was surprised though when my son's school had a jog-a-thon and they had a DJ blasting songs like the Romantics' "What I like about you." Although that song is not as contemporary, the lyrics are suggestive. I doubt most of them would understand the innuendos though.

My sister had a friend who had kids a bit older (42 when she had her daughter). So, she didn't really know much about contemporary music, and really couldn't even understand half the lyrics they were saying. But she could spot the normal swear words, and didn't hear any, so she figured it was ok. It was only when my sister was over there and overheard her and her friends singing along and dancing to Lil Wayne's song Lollipop did she figure it out after my sister told her.

Lil Kim's, "How Many Licks?" is pretty straightforward though. :jest:

We don't do ghetto / low class / this sort of music in my household.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
